Transfer to big college

Hello,

First year student at a top 100 uni in the US, studying math. Considering transfering next year in the back of my head. I have straight A’s this semester including 1 grad class, and 3 upper level undergrad classes. Sending of a very solid paper to get published(first author), and passed 3 actuarial exams. Do i have chance to get into a top 15 school/ get some money, as that was the big factor in my current uni, a lot cheaper then any of the big schools?

Thank you

Many colleges do not offer FA for transfer students. Are you happy at your current school?

Of course you can throw in a few applications-- BUT you are unlikely to get an equivalent financial package as a transfer applicant. I’d focus on making the most of your current situation.

Do you have financial need ? Most ‘top 15’ don’t offer merit and if you are going to be an actuary, transferring won’t help your outcome.

Besides, many top math schools - like UMD as an example - are not top 15.

Good luck

no i do not, my current concentration is actuarial sciences, but I m hoping to move to quant

its not bad, but im kinda worried about presitge for grad school apps

That is not something to worry about. Do well and you will be fine.

If you don’t have need and most, if not all the top 15 don’t give merit aid - how will you ‘get some money’.

Research masters degree programs if you want to be a quant trader/hedge fund quant. The top ones offer almost 100% placement into such careers.

Stay at your current affordable university until you complete your undergraduate studies as there is no need to transfer based on unavailable majors or courses at your current school.

There should be significant overlap between actuarial preparation and quant finance.
