Transfer to Canadian universities directly to second-year: is it possible? How does it work?

Hi,

I’m planning to transfer to UBC, McGill, or U of T, directly after I finish my first year at a U.S. college. That would require that I apply right now (their deadlines are all sometime in January). However, I would only have completed 5 courses, 15 credits by then. My second semester grades would be available only in the first days of May.
UBC says they require a “full year of study” before someone can apply for transfer. Same for McGill, but I’m not sure for UoT. Do they mean I must have a full year of study before I start at UBC, or literally before I apply? If the latter, I would have to take a gap year, or waste a year at my current school if I wanted to transfer to the second-year at a UBC (and probably the other two schools) program.
So how does it work?

Thank you!

I believe it means that you will not get a decision until the schools have seen your complete freshman transcript.

Most Cdn universities want 24 credits for transfer students. You can apply earlier but then they will also consider your high school marks. If you go with 24+ credits, they only look at your post secondary gpa.
