Transferring After Second Year to UVA

Hey guys I recently decided I wanted to transfer to UVA from PSU. I just finished my first year and currently have a 3.46 GPA, and expect it to be at least a 3.5 by the end of the Fall Semester. In High School, I had a 3.7 weighted GPA and about a 1840 on my SAT (26 on ACT).

Recently my academics have improved as I got a 3.72 in the Spring Semester and made Dean’s List. I am also a starting Varsity athlete. I was wondering if you guys knew how my chances were to transferring into UVA. I would be transferring from an out of state to an instate college.

Also, should I retake my SAT and ACT?

Thank you!

Have you contacted the UVA coach for your sport? Being an instate resident will help a lot, but I would still raise that GPA to around a 3.6-3.7. Your standardized scores are around the 25th percentile, but as a junior transfer, I don’t think it’ll impact your application heavily. Overall I think you have a decent chance. If you want to be on the safe side, you should retake the SAT/ACT and improve your score a little, but I don’t think it’s necessary at this point.

Im currently taking two summer classes because I changed my major and my cummulative GPA should be a 3.52 after the semester. Last semester (after I changed major) I had a 3.72 for that semester alone. How high do you think my GPA should be to be comfortable?

What department would you be applying to? What is your major?

I had A much lower hs gpa, but a slightlyhigher college gpa (3.8) and I was accepted as a second year transfer. I had a slightly higher sat score, I also took pretty tough classes in hs. Without knowing all the details I’d say you have a pretty good shot!
