Transferring with just IGETC?

I’m currently at Moorpark, and not sure what I want to major in. I know I would like to become a teacher, but I’m not sure if I want to major in biology or history and then get my teaching certificate. My question is, if I don’t know what my major is going to be, can I transfer with just a IGETC certificate?

Sorry if this isn’t the right place for this kind of thread :S

I would post in the UC transfer thread. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/

This is from the UCLA website for Transfers::::
CAN I APPLY TO UCLA AS AN UNDECLARED MAJOR?

A: No. Transfer students must apply to a specific major. One reason for this is that UCLA policy requires that all students declare their major by the time they reach junior standing. Another reason is that transfer applicants are expected to complete lower division preparation coursework for their intended majors before transferring.

For many majors, especially within LAS, you can transfer with just IGETC. Make sure you look at requirements for your major and use ASSIST to determine equivalencies. You may want to fulfill requirements for an AA, too, which you likely will have fulfilled in getting the IGETC.

now would be a good time to start working with the xfer center at Moorpark. They ought to have regular seminars about how to transfer, host visiting counselors from UCs, and also have their own counselors you can work with.

You also should work with the career center to understand the path to get your single-subject credential. Much of this info is also online.

And even though from posting in this forum one of your choices is ucla, don’t rule out the other campuses yet even if ucla is where you really want to go. One good reason not to is that many of them take part in TAG which offers an admission guarantee. I would suggest picking one such campus and making sure you meet the TAG requirements so that you have one in the bag.

Since UCSB is closer geographically, and may be a TAG school, as @mikemac suggests, you may want to target them as well.
