How difficult is it to transfer within schools? For example, If I went to the engineering school but wanted to switch to arts & sciences, would I have to fill out a transfer application and go through the same process as people transferring from different universities? Is there any preference given to current students?

Also, does UVA segregate freshman housing based on schools? As an engineering student, is there any chance I could end up in the same dorm as my friends from arts & sciences?

I remember the tour guide saying that freshman housing is completely random… so I don’t think it is segregated based on school. The tour guide said that if BOTH people request each other then they will be rooming together, but if only one person requests the other then it will be random. So, as long as you and your friend both request each other you will be rooming together.

yea the housing is random and not decided on school… i just visited a friend at uva who went w/ random housing, and got paired up with a guy from arts and sciences, so you would be able to room w/ your friends

oh I forgot about your transferring within schools. The lady at the information session said that transferring from one college to another is not difficult, she said it was easy. I would imagine that transferring from engineering to arts and sciences is especially easy and that trying to transfer from arts and sciences to engineering or architecture is where you may run into some difficulties.
