Does anyone have suggestions for a good place to read upscale travel advice?

other than trip advisor? probably travel and leisure?

I’m a travel web site junkie. My favorite is [Reviews of vacations, hotels, resorts, vacation and travel packages - TripAdvisor](http://www.tripadvisor.com), which has hotel reviews and great links for info on destinations. I also like Travel & Leisure, Fodors, Frommers, etc. For cruises, don’t miss [Cruise Critic - Cruises, Cruise Reviews and Deals](http://www.cruisecritic.com). With some destinations I get adventurous, yet want to save money, so I start with [BiddingForTravel.com - The informed Priceline Travel Bidding Forum](http://www.biddingfortravel.com) and www.betterbidding and then place my bid on Priceline.

I found tripadvisor very helpful when planning a trip to Europe for a Girl Scout trip a few years back. Some of the forums have local experts that are very willing to give advice.

When we were planning the Germany part of the trip a local expert gave us detailed directions on how to get to a castle we wanted to go and see. The hotel we were staying at told us it was impossible to get to the castle without a car but by following the directions given to me on tripadvisor (a short train journey followed by a delightful 2-3 mile walk) we got there without a car. The journey there was as much a part of the experience as the actual Castle - much more fun than a car or taxi would have been.

I chose all the hotels for the trip based on tripadvisor tips. Helped me choose some unusual and reasonably priced hotels - an old castle in Germany, a converted Monastery in Venice, a delightful Canal house in Amsterdam.

My favorite - and I spend more time there than here (I find that hard to believe also) - is Flyertalk. I have yet to find a travel problem that they can’t solve - and the hotel reviews are so much better than anywhere else.

Orientation is toward frequent flyer programs and business travelers - but I used it extensively when planning a trip last summer to Paris and London for fun.

I’ve used tripadvisor for most of my planning but also enjoy going to lonelyplanet’s website as well as frommers. I’ve also gotten names of guides from cruisecritic on their ports of call discussion board. I LOVE planning trips.

My favorite travel forum is tripadvisor but I also like to pop into the frommers forum and the Thorn Tree forum on Lonely Planet’s website. I’ve also found good guides on the Ports of Call section of Cruise Critic’s forum. I LOVE to plan trips!

tripadvisor is good for specific hotels. For more general info, [Fodor’s Travel Talk Forums](Fodors.com Trending Discussions) has many active well-informed participants.

My favorite travel forum is Fodors. It has a lot of knowledgeable people who frequent it who travel a lot. It was my first addictive site before I found CC. [Fodor’s Travel Talk Forums](Fodors.com Trending Discussions)

drb – we cross-posted with the same great advice!

Fodor’s and Frommer’s also have sites with articles and forums that have great advice.

You might try the community tab at luxurylink.com. I’ve not frequented their forums, but have used their website for purchasing vacations.

slowplanet.com or slowfood.com

Slow Travel and its message board, SlowTalk. Excellent resources for international travel.

So nice to find so may fellow travel junkies here! Tripadvisor has been my go to site, I recently found Fodor’s and I can’t wait to check out these others!

Upcoming trip is to Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay. Any advice much appreciated!

Another good site for US driving trips (to visit all those colleges?) is [Road Trip Planning: Tips, Resources & Advice](<a href=“Page not found!”>http://www.roadtripamerica.com/) I posted a query about the drive on US20 between Ft. Collins, CO and Laramie, WY and got answers within hours.

I heard Arthur Frommer speak a few years back, and South America was his top destination recommendation.

Not upscale in the least but I love [BootsnAll Travel Network :: Travel Community, Travel Stories, Cheap Tickets, Youth Hostels and all your travel needs](http://www.bootsnall.com/). Also [Express Subscriptions - Intrepid Travel](http://www.intrepidtravel.com/express/) which comes out of AU.

I’m a frequent poster on fodors.com. You cannot beat it for up to the minute advice. We were planning a trip to Germany with a car and I was trying to figure out where to park in Heidelberg. Within a few hours the great folks on fodors told me exactly what lot to park in to be close to the castle. This is just one example of the fabulous help you can get there.

Thanks for all the great sites! This has not been my most productive day!
