“Rocky Mountains NP” - That’s 30 miles from us (mostly uphill). We can go easily pop up there for a hike or picnic. We really should do that more often
Big Sur, Yosemite, Zion, Yellowstone, Seattle, Vancouver BC, the coastal redwoods area( Eureka, Prairie Creek, Trinidad, CA etc), Ireland, Scotland, Santa Rosa/Napa/Sonoma.
glad someone mentioned Wengen, Switzerland… that is my favorite area as well.
Antigua, Guatemala. Went there last year and can’t wait to return.
Ireland, and Fiji, but mostly Fiji.
@Parent1337 – I’m going to Fiji in a week! Super excited! Advice?
For starters:
North American cities: New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Montreal, Toronto, Mexico City (except for the smog), Boston, Washington, New Orleans. Seattle gets an honorable mention.
Cities elsewhere: Paris, London, Prague, Munich, Vienna, Amsterdam, Berlin, Stockholm, Helsinki, Beijing (except for the smog), Shanghai, Rio de Janeiro, Quito.
Beautiful places: Yosemite, Yellowstone/Tetons, Rocky Mountain NP, Canadian Rockies, California coastal redwoods, Big Sur/California Central Coast, Marin Headlands, Maine coast, New Hampshire’s White Mountains, Vermont’s Green Mountains. Adirondacks, Hudson Valley, Cape Cod (Outer Cape), Shenandoah NP, Outer Banks, Michigan’s Lake Michigan shoreline (especially Sleeping Bear Dunes but many other lovely spots as well), Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Minnesota’s North Shore, the west of Ireland (especially County Galway & County Clare), Normandy & pretty much anywhere in the French countryside, pretty much anywhere in the Alps, Amalfi Coast.
Other: Napa/Sonoma and pretty much any quality wine-growing region that offers winery tours, tastings, and gastronomy; many college towns; “hidden gem” off-the-beaten-path ethnic and regional eateries in many locations that I won’t list by name or location lest it spoil their charm.

If you happen to visit Seattle again, take a little detour north to the 'Ville:

We like to visit this place again and again!! ![]()
Or take a scenic flight on Horizon Air to the Tri-Cities area to tour the wineries there.
Oregon Coast, especially Cannon Beach and nearby areas. Should have bought a place years ago, did not have any money then, do not have enough money now! I have paid more for similar accommodation in Cannon Beach than Kauai, go figure. Still worthwhile coming back again and again.
Don’t think I’ve seen this one listed yet.
If I could only see one more place before I die, I would re-visit Antelope Canyon outside Page AZ. It is…sublime.
Garland – the trail with Pat – YES. I think you were the one who recommended it here, and we stayed at their B&B and did the walk the next day. I felt sorry for the folks who got off the bus at the visitor center – they had NO IDEA what they had missed.
Ireland, Bavaria, Fort Pickens and the Gulf Islands National Seashore, Coronado (CA… Lived there for awhile, could kick ourselves for not buying that lovely little Mediterranean style house that was sooo expensive … $350,000… LOL), Northern Coastal California.
Oh, yes, Wengen, Switzerland is incredible! It would be nice to spend a summer there.
@takeitallin, I think you are my soul mate.
We also stayed at Pat’s B&B in Doolin and took his walk. He’s there every day, from around Easter to the end of October, around 10 AM, across from Gus O’Connor’s pub. You can like “Doolin cliff walks” on fb and see everyone’s glorious photos. When we took his walk, every other person was Irish and had come especially to hear his stories. They walk fast, too!
We actually didn’t do the walk with someone; we stayed in Doolin and found the walk up the cliffs ourselves, based on descriptions from our D who’d been there earlier, and a map we saw. Either way, it’s pretty amazing. Did a lot of ducking under electrified fences and along scary cliff edges.
A really nice winery we toured and dined at was Trios at Niagara on the Lake in Ontario, Niagara Falls. We could happily return there. The Niagara on the Lake area was very nice as well–we did lots of walking and found a nice little Greek restaurant downstairs that had fabulous food at great prices.
@eastcoascrazy Years ago we thought seriously about buying a little 2nd home on the beach in Carpinteria, CA. It was going for a “ridiculous” price-probably around $250,000- and it would have really stretched our finances with newborn twins, so we nixed the idea. That same little house is now going for well over $1 million. I wish I had a time machine.
I would definitely recommend Niagara on the Lake. I was there at the end of Sept in 2013 and found it charming. The town is quaint, lovely residential streets and architecture to admire, the Shaw Festival venues, fine dining, wineries, historic War of 1812 forts, nice inns, very nice spot for a quick getaway or a week or so. Easy drive to see the famous Niagara Falls which are always pretty spectacular.
For me I would visit Paris, Amsterdam, London, Vienna, Barcelona, Madrid, Venice. Florence and Rome again and again. I would also revisit Prague and Salzberg.
I would definitely revisit Israel and with family there, I know I will be there again for another wedding or some such.
In North America, definitely Vancouver and have recently revisited and have been several times to both Montreal and Quebec City. In the U.S… visit NYC every day but cannot imagine a life without NYC, would always love to go back and visit San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, Washington, D.C and do so whenever I can.
It has been a long time since I’ve been to either San Diego, Denver, Seattle, Portland and would definitely want a return trip. Same with Sedona and Santa Fe.
Then there is always the Maine Coast… always love a chance to visit Maine, Would be happy to visit Yosemite and Napa Valley again… and we of course do have our family favorite summer rental spot in the White Mountains of NH.
So far, I have not seen Copenhagen mentioned in either of the two threads… Hmmm… Good or bad? Wondering because I might go there.
