Shanghai used to be the place, before reading this thread, I’ve would have thought otherwise. I must admit, I’ve got my impression from watch the movie The last Emperor.
The Forbidden City in Beijing is very interesting (and crowded). But the crowds are also interesting, because Chinese tourists come to Beijing from all over China. Many of them want to talk with a Caucasian or have their picture taken with one.
Paris, French countryside, Bavaria, London, English countryside. Cities are for museums, culture, food, archetecture. Countryside is for leisurely exploratory drives and discovering all sorts of hidden gems.
I like to stay close to home.
San Francisco, the San Juans,Portland, Vancouver B.C.
I would like to travel more, someday…But by car or train. Guess Ill never go to Hawaii.
My all time favorite, is within my own state- the American Alps.
I forgot to include Sedona on my list of places I’d like to see again.
I’ve been to San Juan’s, not sure I would go back again. I have other places that have yet to visit.
Monument Valley. In particular “The View Hotel” loved the view and the Navajo who run it. I need to get back. in the car and have a wild west exploration again.
I would love to go there. That is the hotel with the stargazing rooms? So far, I have not been to southern Utah but I won’t let it wait much longer.
Yes @greenwitch. It was great, I was also just able to set up my watercolors,a glass of wine and paint all day from my terrace. Absolutely gorgeous. The entire valley at your feet. And the Navajo hospitality is spectacular as well.
Scotland. Been twice for two weeks each time and would go back in a heart beat, both for hiking and sightseeing.
Bryce Canyon. Been twice without time for hiking either time.
Petra. Spent an entire day there, but would love to soak it in again and take one walk we had to miss.
Oh and we like Napa/Sonoma too. Went there for our honeymoon and have been back three more times. All for very short visits, but I don’t ever get tired of drinking wine.
Instead we seem to go over and over again to Vermont and Cape Cod. Very nice, but we go there because the lodgings are free.
I love Vermont and Cape Cod. I did a bike ride in Vermont years ago, staying at an inn. Got snowed in Oct. But I don’t like Boston anymore, too crowded from what I remembered. Some place it was best to leave it for the wonderful memories. I mean why ruin them by revisiting.
have only traveled in north america; will change that at some point.
in NA: i love the most yellowstone and grand tetons.
Ireland, especially the West Coast: Galway, Aran, Doolin, Dingle, Ring of Kerry (Dublin’s great, too.)
@CountingDown --my secret path to Cliffs of Moher, did you mean the walk up from Doolin? We did that once, but I’m not sure my joints would get through ti again.
And my own private slice of heaven–Cape May and environs.
Petra. I would LOVE to spend some serious time there.
My husband loved Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. I tried fishing there once. Somehow I never managed to get my kids back there for a second visit. Such is life. I loved camping in the park, not sure I can manage camping there now.
South Africa. That’s why I’m going for the fourth time on Thursday!
If I could swing it, I would live in Kruger National Park for a couple of years. Maybe I could volunteer with a wildlife foundation.
Cambria. It’s beautiful and we always meet people from all over the world. Not sure if we are making our annual visit- drought was bad last few visits and could only be worse.
Last year we did balloon fiesta in Albuquerque and had a lot of fun. Did a tour of Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Los Alamos on that trip. All really cool towns with some of the best food I have ever tasted!
Lake Powell houseboating is another good one… that’s an experience never to be forgotten! Especially during monsoon season.
Lastly, I have fond memories of various hiking trips through the Sierra. I grew up in Lake Tahoe so I was fortunate enough to explore a lot of wilderness areas, and go on multi-day backpacking trips.
The Kalalau trail. I’d love to hike it again - this time, camp for 2 nights. Paradise!
I love Yellowstone! Could spend months there in the lodging on premises.
