Travel / Vacation clothing

I do not, but I have heard great things about it. One of my pickleball friends wears her merino shirt multiple times before washing it.

We love it, it does a really good job of traveling, great to layer. However…merino wool is not magic - if someone sweats more than typical, or has particularly smelly sweat - the fabric will retain the odor.

I do not sweat all that much ever (even when working out) and find merino wool travel stuff to be an excellent match. When I went for hot pot in Chengdu, China - my merino wool dress did smell strongly of Szechuan pepper corns, chilis and spice afterwards. Had to wash it to get the smell out.

My husband wears mostly polo shirts on vacation, so we bought him two before our recent trip. Not sure if he rewore them. But I can say that they pack compactly and dry quickly after being washed in hotel sink.

I don’t perspire much at all and use merino wool base layers a lot and never wash until I return home. I wear multiple times per trip and never have any problems. I have bought Icebreaker and Minus 33 (both medium weight) and find them very useful, since I get cold easily. I wear them under dressier shirts or alone with a scarf.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences with merino wool. I’m not much of a sweater either. We will be in Morocco for 2 weeks and traveling through several different climates. It sounds like they will work well for me.

I have some Lululemon travel pants that work so well! I think they are from the Daydrift line. They are not fitted, not athleisure, but they taper some to the ankle so they are not sloppy. I wear them on planes and also wear them during days of travel. I have a couple of linen tops (not quite tunic length) that work well for me. I’m just back from Italy and I think I wore these pants more than anything on the trip.

I have a couple of long-sleeved, lightweight merino wool pullover sweaters with me on this trip (bought from Costco last November). I try to hang them up after wearing to air them out. They do get washed, though, after a few wearings.
I also bought a pair of WoolX pants for last year’s trip. My sister spilled half a glass of mulled wine on one leg. I was able to wash it out easily and they were dry in the morning.

In addition to the linked black crewneck top I wore (as base layer and alone), I also had a cream silky turtleneck. And this v-neck arctic cool running shirt (in blue) . And short sleeve version (in aqua).

On the 12 day trip, I always had one of those as first layer (or sometimes two as I switched things up at dinner). Only washed the short sleeved one I wore under sweatshirt on plane, though probably that was overkill. I did have a variety of short sleeved shirts and thin dressy jacket to wear over them. And 2 dressy thin scarves, which take up little room.

One new/warm combo I tried that worked out nicely in evening was the black base layer with dark blue short sleeved mock on top, plus thin dressy jacket. I did take too many short sleeved shirts, but they took little space and gave nice variety in various layer combos.

Before our

Last Italy trip I bought my husband 4 merino wool t shirts. They worked great. He could wear them multiple days and they washed in the sink and dried quickly. The brands we have used are Icebreaker and Smartwool. I ordered several different cuts and weights as they d fit differently depending on cut. He liked them enough that he is still wearing them. I don’t put them in the dryer but I do machine wash.

I also have several in both crew neck, v neck and a sleeveless top. Again they varied in weight and feel. The Smartwool ones I like are silky and light weight and can look dressed up with a skirt and scarf. I’ve considered trying a dress or pants.

Consider a top from 32 degrees. They are having a sale (they often do). Women’s 32° Heat

I have several of these as well. Easy care, last for ages.

A lot of their clothes are also sold at Costco

Yes! I grab a refill every year. The long sleeve heat base layer is part of my travel day wardrobe. Depending on season and destination I layer a short sleeve on top of the base..and can change into just the short sleeve upon arrival. If it’s cold those base layer shirts feel very nice next to the skin, don’t get smelly and are a nice buffer between a less soft warmer layer. I also love the 32 degree joggers. I have several of the lighter versions and a few of the fleece lined. Again, great travel clothes.

I’ve also gotten two of these…and they are great for a warm base layer. Wore one for about 2 weeks while cruising the Norwegian fjords and it kept my core nice and toasty without bulk..

How was the sizing for the Quince tank top? I’m normally a medium but sometimes a large or small, depending of the brand. It sounds tempting as I get cold easily and tanks take no luggage space.

Meant to add, 32 degrees has what they call “heat” vs “cool” versions, but to be honest, other than sleeve length, I can’t tell the difference!

I am usually a medium (unless it is Amazon and states ‘asian sizing’ - in which case I have been an XL). The Quince medium is true to size.

If anyone’s looking, 32degrees has men’s boxers (4@$14.99) and women’s panties (@$9.99) at decent Black Friday/Cyber Monday Prices. If you spend at least $40 you also get free shipping and a free shopping bag.

That’s a great price on the mens boxers. They are good for travel as they dry quick. Costco sells them but I think for not as cheap. My husband has some from REI and Patagonia that have lasted years but they are pretty expensive.

Yes, wanted quick dry and ex officio is just too expensive for our tastes (tho S & DIL say that’s all they use). I already have some ex officio but figured to get a few more quick dry at a good price.

I’ve gotten my husband ExOfficio at Costco. I don’t think it’s a regular item but with Costco you never know what you’ll find.
