I did buy some ex officio shirts from Costco but never saw them again Love the shirts for travel—they look nice, don’t wrinkle, stain resistant & have hidden zippered pocket.
Well, the Lole rain jacket arrived and it is indeed oversized (and a bit frumpy—perhaps because of the coat under it), but it does fit OVER my warm coat and should keep me dry). It does have a handy carry sack with 2 shoulder straps that is attached to the inside of the jacket for easy toting when not wearing it. It’s grey rather than the blue I thought it was in the photo. It was great at 1/2 price.
Thanks for the feedback. Glad the Lole rain jacket worked out. The sack with straps sounds like a good idea. (In London, I often had a drawstring backpack in pocket if needed to shed extra layers.)
My rain jacket arrived yesterday and I’m happy with it. It’s roomy enough to fit a sweater or sweatshirt underneath. Lots of tightening fixtures, several pockets, and a storage bag.
Nice! I really like it when you can bundle up at the face/neck like that.
There’s enough of an overhang to somewhat protect my glasses, which is nice. There’s even a little tightening thingie on the back of the hood to fit better to my small head.
Does the overhang stay put? I have a LL Bean raincoat I use when hiking but I have to wear a baseball cap with it because the visor on the coat flops down over my eyes.
ETA that gathering thingy might do the trick. I have a gather all around the hood, but I don’t like it.
It’s not a visor, just part of the hood that the second cord goes through. When I pull everything tight, between that and the drawstring around the hood, I get about an inch or so of material framing my face. I don’t really plan to be out in a torrential downpour! So hopefully that will suffice for light rain.
Would this be a good dress for travel in the teal? It would be for casual/dressy dinners on our NZ/Oz trip, including dinners out in Sydney although I’m not sure anyone really will wear a dress on the Globus tour portion. I have a green cardigan and bronze sandals that would work with it. Total would be $40 including tax and shipping. And looks like it would work well in San Diego. I’m guessing since it’s jersey it shouldn’t wrinkle.
@Marilyn -i think that’s a great choice!
That’s a nice dress and for that price/where you live, you’ve got to buy it. What I recall about NZ was that people tended to dress pretty casually all of the time. Note - we were on a cycling trip for 14 days so that was really casual, but even in the cities people were pretty casual.
I was not in NZ.
The observation I find when traveling is that Americans will wear athletic clothing everywhere. On our recent cruise, there were a few women wearing very casual leggings on tours. I personally wasn’t a fan.
Even the young people wore pants or dresses in Europe where we were.
I like to err on casual but not athletic clothing. I feel like you can’t go wrong with that adage.
I think the dress is very cute and perfect for travel.
Three upvotes so I bought it! I’ve always been a fan of Coldwater Creek but only used to buy in the store if on sale.
We will be on our own for dinner in Wellington, Christchurch, and Queenstown on the tour, plus Sydney on our own afterwards. I wanted to bring at least one nicer option in case I want to feel a tiny bit dressy. And since they show it with straw hats I guess it could work for a nice lunch out (here if not there.)
Overall I feel my casual San Diego wardrobe will fit right in for NZ. But this dress actually fills a little gap. I’m not an athletic clothing kind of person - or leggings - more like compression socks these days!
That’s a great looking dress Marilyn! Really cute. ![]()
My recent trips were for the purpose of participating in sports events, so most people were wearing athletic clothing. It also tends to be less bulky when packing for a trip.
The only cruise I have been on was mostly to Alaska, and the shore tours commonly involved activities like hiking, kayaking, etc..
That seems like a great choice. It should travel easily, not take up much space. It’s nice you’ll have a cardigan for layering options.
Very cute and nice you have items to layer with.
Make it four upvotes!

I’m going to put a word out for Anatomie clothing for travel. I saw their ads and thought the pants with all of their stitching were awesome looking but $$$! And unknown return policies kept me from trying. When Nordstrom started selling them on their site and had a 40% off sale, I decided to give those pants a try. My regular size was too tight fitting for my tastes. If I wanted leggings, I’d buy Lulu! So I tried going up a size, and it did the trick! Fit like straight leg pants! The waist needed a belt, but I have plenty. And the pants are extremely comfortable and lightweight. So light that the sales associate who brought me my package did not believe there were 3 pairs in it! I also bought the skort which fit just fine in my regular size. I’m going to keep all of the clothes I bought. They’re awesome for packing light!
