To all those parents, grandparents, family and friends that are about to embark on a trip to Annapolis to greet and celebrate with their loved one this Parent/Plebe Weekend-my prayers for a safe and speedy trip.

What is it they say-Fair seas and a following wind?

I’d like to quote a line from Star Trek 6…Kirk says it at the very end of the movie…it sums up how I feel as hubby and I leave bright and early tomorrow to head east to see our Plebe!!!

“Second star to the right, and straight on 'til morning.” (paraphrased) – J. M. Barrie’s Peter Pan.

My husband, daughter, and I along with my mom, sister, sister-in law, cousins and grandparents can’t wait to depart to Annapolis on Thursday. We can’t wait to see our son. He had quite a cough when we talked to him on Sunday but was in excellent spirits and said many had coughs. Their will be alot of us but we will follow our plebe’s lead.

Time to go to USNA!!! Can hardly wait to wake up at 0200 on Thursday to catch that 0600 flight out of Los Angeles!!! Actually, I probably won’t sleep until I see my beautiful plebe!!!

Will see you all, hopefully at the Severn Inn on Sunday!

“Fair winds and a following sea” …
and of course…
GO NAVY!!! BEAT ARMY!!!

Hi y’all!
Annapolis, here we come!
Just wondering what special requests your plebes have made for you to bring with you on PPW. What are they missing (if anything) from home?
We’ve been planning to stop along the way for some local SC BBQ, but son has asked us to please bring some Sweet Tea. We’ve gotten quite a chuckle out of it - as great of a job as USNA does in providing for our kids, I guess there are just some things that aren’t like “home”!

Personally, I’m happy there is something we can bring - not that I’ve been feeling displaced by the Navy or anything - haha!

Heading down tomorrow early am…can’t wait to deliver all the hugs and kisses stored up over these past few weeks! Our Oscar Company parents will be proudly joining the “skittle brigade” at pep on Friday morning, and no doubt all of you have something special planned for your favorite Mid! Have a safe trip! See you all on Sunday!

Safe travels everyone!! We want a full reporting when you get back.

bz, I now own stock in Lipton cold brew tea bags. I keep wondering if I’m gonna find myself in trouble for sending zip loc bags full of white sugar in the boodle boxes. My son made sweet tea all year long in his drink bottle thanks to these things. A TRUE southerner!! :)

JM - LOL (I think that’s the first time I’ve ever used that - of course it would be in response to one of your posts!). Thanks for the tip - now the boy can have his southern libation!

We were talking about swee pea just the other day . . . .

Oh, you meant sweet tea.
Wife and Son are fans of sweet tea. I am not. Son said, however, he only drinks in Virginia and the Carolinas. [My aren’t we getting regional after a year at the Academy.] Anyway, I asked what the difference was between sweet tea and just putting sugar in it. . . that led to a big discussion of syrup versus sugar and hot versus cold breweing.
You can tell that we love having our son home; even if it is only for aabout ten days this time.

Yes Bill, I imagine it’s great being able to talk to him about anything & everything as much & as quickly as you possibly can in those few days - we’re about to give it a try ourselves soon! He says there are so many things he just can’t explain in his letters. (I can believe it!). How many words can we get in over 28 hours??

Then again, we may just be sitting there watching him sleep - but that’s okay too!

When they said USNA takes away all their rights & then gives them back as priveledges - I didn’t realize they meant parents too! haha! What a priveledge a little conversation will be!

BTW - I’m off the sweet tea myself (too many carbs). Much prefer Arizona Diet Green Tea. Good stuff - if you can’t get Merlot, of course!

Definitions of tea drinks from a southern viewpoint:

Sweet tea = sweetened with simple syrup, served over ice with lemon- a true southerners drink - glass is never half empty or its considered bad manners

Sweetened iced tea = what yankees do to tea with a packet of sugar & a spoon

Our plebe said that not to bring food that he had enough in all the care packages he recieved. He did said to bring his IPOD because it will be the only time he will be able to listen to his music until Thankgiving break. He loves music and truly misses the ability to listen to it. He was also upset that he had gained 4 lbs during plebe summer and was afraid his muscle was turining to fat. He said they had been easy on them the last two weeks and he couldn’t wait till he was in charge of his own workout. My daughter said he has always been an excercise freak and we can’t wait to see him to tell him he looks great. We are leaving tomorrow and can’t wait to get to Annapolis.

LOL!!! Poor Annabelle! Sorry to say, Annabelle is going to sit this one out…with the babysitter no less! But she may soon be a resident of Annapolis…which is a whole other story, but the hour is late to post it all- trust me it is complicated- but will share when I get back if you can stand to hear my new tale of woe!!!

Fall Lacrosse: absoulutely!!! Our thorpedo made the cut for summer lax, but still needs to try out for fall ball with the other recruits- not sure how many freshman they will end up taking (6?? 8???), but he is trying his best to be one of them! We heard over 150 kids showed up for lax when practices started…trimmed way down for summer practice to about 30 give or take a few…so say a prayer! And we just got news that he has to have all 4 wisdom teeth pulled next tuesday!!! Oye vey!!

Boss- How is that coastie of yours doing anyway? Where is he traveling to these days? They must be keeping the kids closer to the eastern part of LI sound as I have yet to be boarded this summer- highly unusual!!!

Night all- 5am is rolling around quick and I can’t wait to be finally on the road to Annapolis! I have someone there I can’t wait to see!!!

Ha I missed your answer the first time around…Steve is good; he’s home for another week then back to NL. The Eagle is headed for Greenport this week…should be there by Thursday or Friday.
