Trojan Transfer Plan (TTP) including Study Abroad Info

My son is doing TTP now and waiting for a decision next month. He and his TTP friends were lucky in that all of their classes have been online. Not everybody is that lucky. CC classes can fill up quickly and once they do some kids are forced to do in person classes. The commute to SMC from USC can be horrible with traffic. Its a big risk to take.

Good luck to you guys! We are waiting as well but for VPP. Just curious, what did your counselor say about the date the results will be coming out? In the past I believe ttp got it late April. Please come back and share when he gets his acceptance from SC.

Can someone help quantify how bad the traffic is, to help set reasonable expectations?

TTP risk or in-person traffic risk?

Traffic. The 10 from DTLA to SM can get really congested, especially at the 405 exit.:rofl:

Son is considering the same option (SMU). We are going to play out the TTP process over the summer to see if we believe there is still any semblance of old-TTP still around (ie. 1:1 counseling).

You can take the metro but there are a lot of homeless people on there and it takes awhile. Most kids drive if they live near campus (usc). It can be done but know you will have to bring at of patience.:+1:t2: Alot of stem ttp kids are currently doing it.

My oldest daughter’s friend did her ttp at SMU. I believe she met a few more ttp kids there as well. I would say still go for ttp. Was your wording ambiguous or was it more affirming like last year. Like “we are strongly interested in seeing you at usc” and such.

Outside of the “ties to the USC community comment” it felt very non-affirming. No strong statements like what you quoted.

That sounds more “affirming” than the other ttp I read recently. I will assume you are an alumni? Please come back and let us know if you get the 1:1 counseling. My daughter is getting the counseling but they are still messing up on the transcript upload. She sent it in on February and it still hasn’t uploaded. Meanwhile her ttp friend sent it in a few weeks back and her’s already uploaded.:face_holding_back_tears:

I attended USC, but ironically transferred after 2 years so not an alumni. The Common App did give my son an option to indicate that I did attend and not graduate. Will definitely update once the summer counseling sessions get underway.

Edited.

Sorry I don’t remember if this has been mentioned, but does the major you are transferring into weigh heavily on your chances? My son is focused on business so Marshall would be ideal, but I also know how difficult a typical HS acceptance to Marshall can be. Does transferring into Marshall have the same difficulty?

I think CADREAMIN would be better equipped to answer this question. My kid is doing the Viterbi pathways program so she is doing stem. (You have to take specific classes) From what I can recall in the past with friends, Their kids just transferred in as GE (different major) and internally transferred in to Marshall. I think there is a gpa component to internal transfer but I don’t know any details. I think once you get your counseling 1:1, they can answer that question for you.

Plenty of kids actually transfer into Marshall both as regular and internal transfers. The key, whether TTP or not, is meeting their class requirements (writing and math, plus internal transfers must do econ with A- or better and this class has a math pre-req so gotta time that) and a gpa of 3.8+ would be preferred. They say 3.6 in the pathways program/internal transfer docs, but at a planning session they had, reps admitted that they say 3.6, but most won’t get in with that and they end up looking for 3.7 -3.8 and above. So I’d err on higher obviously. Accounting applicants have more course requirements to take care of.

I suppose no one got info on the Marshall Pathways Program? It’s still on website, but who the heck knows if it’s actually around for this next year
Not sure if VPP, MPP and TPP are dinosaurs or still in play - we will have to rely on folks to let us know if they get the 1:1 experience offered or not.

From USC:
The Marshall Pathways Program (MPP) is the first Undergraduate Admissions initiative designed to provide inclusive support for prospective transfer students throughout the application process and the first year of matriculation.

The Marshall Undergraduate Admissions and Outreach Office partners with USC’s Enrollment Services Division to identify students who were on the cusp of being admitted to USC as freshmen and invite these high achieving students to apply to USC as sophomore transfer students to the Marshall School of Business.

The MPP exemplifies our commitment to attract the world’s top talent and to nurture a dynamic learning environment. Invited students demonstrate exceptional scholarship and receive targeted support aimed at exposing them to different industries and to the unparalleled strength of the Marshall Community. Participants receive transfer counseling, regular check-ins, and an opportunity to immerse themselves in Marshall’s culture.

You are amazing!:100::100::100::heart::heart::heart::folded_hands:t2::folded_hands:t2::folded_hands:t2: Thank you for all the valuable info. As for VPP, it’s gone from the website. I am supposed to speak with the counselor next week so I will report back if they offered Vpp this year. I noticed now you can sign up for info sessions for transfer pathways for the summer. Seems like anyone can sign up now. I have been calling the school to upload my kids transcript from SMC. She sent it in on February but they still haven’t uploaded it yet. I felt embarrassed calling today but regular admission counselor was super helpful and found it in the system. This is after we have been emailing back and forth for two weeks regarding this matter to her Viterbi counselor. So with that being said, even if your on the plan, you still have to hustle.:rofl::rofl:

Hi all, current TTP parent here. Is the accounting course recommendation needed for admission to Marshall for business? My d already completed the business calculus and writing requirements last semester at her cc (got As in both classes and a 4.0 overall across 4 classes/15 credits) but was unable to take the transferable accounting courses offered at her cc. She’s only interested in the business admin degree, not accounting. But on the transfer pamphlet given at the TTP meeting last summer it says accounting is “recommended” but not required. Just wondering as “recommended” tends to mean a course is pretty much required behind the scenes. Could be wrong though, and that’s what my d and I are hoping. Any thoughts?

I would call and ask the counselor. I have gotten really used to calling my D’s counselor lately.:rofl::rofl:

From what I recall and recently read to remind myself, for TTP the accounting is not required, but for internal transfers (those already at USC) it is. Your student should be done with the writing and English taken care of. Always good to double check, but I think that’s the way it works.

Thank you very much for all this information. USC Marshall is a huge deal to my child. Hopefully, our breathing and heart rates will return to normal by the end of May.
