This is a really challenging process. We’re 3/3 for admits with no immediately affordable options. It’s still early, but I completely get the frustration. Hang in there.

Son was accepted at Lawrence Conservatory/University (for Voice Performance and a likely minor in Political Science) with TE of 49,100 + an additional grant, meeting our demonstrated need. If he takes the $5500 loan, our out-of-pocket will be less than room and board at our home institution. This is his second TE award. Both are at small liberal arts schools, where TE might be easier to get? I know the program isn’t perfect by a long shot, but when it works, it’s a wonderful benefit. I just wish everyone who applied was guaranteed to get it at one of the schools they apply to.

Wonderful news! That’s the dream w/ tuition fully covered! It would be interesting to test the small LAC theory at the end of this round.

Ah ok, that’s good to know they don’t update the TELO website much. That’s annoying! Thank you!!! Still waiting to hear from Union, Dickinson, Lafayette, and Syracuse but I loved Clark!

nycasdmom, just wanted to reply to your post! I’m so sorry the TE didn’t come through for your child’s top choice. It would have been a long and painful six years for you have stayed in a toxic situation! You did the right thing! It’s hard to figure out the next path but I’m sure you will find it!

Thank you so much for your kind words. I was having a bit of a pity party for a few moments there, but I’m focusing on gratitude now regardless. He has excellent choices and I’m trusting the process knowing that he’ll end up where he should. And if not, he can pivot.
So sorry you are having this frustration and second-guessing career choices. I am in a similar boat – feeling frustrated that I used the TE benefit as my main motivation for sticking it out at and institution that has had some seriously toxic leadership and where I am significantly underpaid. My son is a very strong candidate, but he didn’t get TE at his top choice school and his other top choices have changed their award amount or their rules on whether scholarships can stack. I wish I hadn’t emphasized the TE schools so much as he was building his college list. So – right there with you on the frustration/regret/guilt front. But also trying to remind myself that my son can make the most of his education no matter where he ends up. Hope you get some good news soon, and that you can find ways to develop an optimistic view of whatever his final school options end up being.

D26 was accepted to Occidental yesterday with no TE but a bigger grant/scholarship award, so it evens out. I’m thinking that will likely be the way this whole thing plays out with TE not factoring in as much as we had anticipated. I’m glad she applied widely. 15 decisions more to go!

mine applied to 13 and we’ve heard back from 10 (thankfully acceptances). The two that deferred him to RD are thankfully the lowest on his list. Only one is actually RD. I can’t imagine the wait for 15 more!!! Sending luck and thoughts of many TE offers!

Congrats on Occidental! I have fond memories from visiting there when I was on my own college tour! I ultimately did not go there, but it’s a great school, and probably even better now! And 15 more! Wow! We had 17 total (started out as 13 but grew), mainly because he wanted to throw some reaches in (that I was clear we can’t pay for!). We are still waiting on 1 deferral and 4 more RD (4 of those 5 are reaches that I don’t think are likely or true options).

Congrats!!! I wish we had applied more widely. My son mistakenly thought the common app maxed out at 10 schools so we just stopped at 10. Kind of wishing we had applied closer to 13.
