Great insight, thanks! For reference, we did not apply for financial aid.
Just received my waitlist acceptance a few hours ago! Hope everybody’s goes well!
My daughter was just accepted as a spring scholar off the waitlist for the architecture program. What does your student think of the program so far?
My son decided he wanted to study architecture when he was in the 10th grade. The summer between Junior/Senior year he took an intro course through Syracuse (mom and dad required this as a way of nailing down that he would be applying to BArch programs). This is all to say that even before starting at Tulane he was pretty firm in his commitment to Architecture.
The teachers have been good/dedicated to the success of the students. Everything you hear from students/parents about the studio time commitment to BArch (any school) is true. I’ve said it on other Arch threads but suggest to your student not to get too enamored with all the extracurricular things the school has to offer. She’ll have time for one, possibly two with extreme attention to schedule and workload, and that’s it. My son participates in Marching Band - which is a good outlet for him - but he has little time for anything else.
The studio programs are small 10-12 student cohorts assigned to a professor and TA. The bulk of the rest of the curriculum - so far - has been fairly large classes. His Physics for Architects course was almost 80 students. Class sizes will get smaller in later years. If you or your daughter have specific questions feel free to DM me and I can ask my son.
Did they lay out for you how Spring Scholars works for BArch? The program is pretty structured from a “you need to take this course in the fall and this course in the spring”. I’m not sure how that works with someone coming in off-cycle.
My son was a spring scholar NOT in architecture… all of the architecture kids go to Barcelona - it is only available to them and I believe it sets them up well for the January start.
Thanks - that clarifies it - so they must take their semester 1 studio in Barcelona. The only other Arch course for first semester is “Intro to Architecture” which is online so they probably take that from Barcelona as well.
S24 just received acceptance letter from waitlist. He loved everything about our visit from the open first year curriculum to the great business school facilities to the campus cats and I am pretty sure it would have been a slam dunk first choice one month ago. However, since then he accepted a spot at the University of Florida, has attended orientation and signed up for his fall classes, and toured his fall dorm room in the brand new honors building so the grip that Tulane had on him a couple of months ago isn’t what it was. He wasn’t expecting to have this option so it will be interesting to see what he thinks.
