Tulane EA and ED Admission Decisions - Class of 2021

My son was rejected from Rice earlier today :frowning: I was hoping to be done with all decisions today. He was accepted to Baylor and offered a significant scholarship and he is grateful for that. I, myself, am done with the waiting. Smh

@AnxiousMom3501 - Sorry to say I am expecting the worst. They accepted several deferrals in February/early March. If I’m wrong, we’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Us too

This dreadful process will be over soon… :slight_smile:

Im definitely choosing UCLA over Tulane!!! Cant wait to be a bruin

Hey y’all, I’m just trying to cross Tulane off my list. Do I have to wait until April 1st now? I got differed originally.

I don’t think that you need to take any action at this time. If they offer you admission, or if they put you on the waitlist, send a polite note saying that you are declining whichever offer applies.

@AriShmari My son is in the same boat as you. He is thinking he is going to accept Baylor’s generous scholarship and move on.

Tulane has had an increase in applications and yield the last two admissions seasons, which has resulted in over enrollment. The University probably wants to get a better gauge on the yield rate of already admitted students for the incoming class before admitting any more students. This probably accounts for why the decisions for the small number of remaining applicants who have not yet heard have not been released.

Not to mention that this year they totally screwed up, and admitted people who should not have been admitted. As a result, the school took back the admissions and granted most of these wrongfully admitted kids offers of admission for the Spring '18.

Is there even an possibility of getting admitted at this time? Considering it is so late now.

@trackmbe3 I guess I am just really confused. My son applied EA and was deferred. We are still waiting for a decision. If they thought my son wasn’t a good fit, they would have rejected by now, right?

@AnxiousMom3501 You are correct. If he was not a good fit he undoubtedly would be rejected by now. Tulane has more than enough highly qualified applicants who would do well there but they just don’t have enough space to admit everybody who is qualified. They need to figure out, of those who have already been accepted, how many will commit and accept their offer. They don’t want to enroll over 1,800 freshman again, as was the case this past Fall, because such a large class will put a burden on resources and force more tripling up in the dorms. They want to avoid that. My guess is that, barring some more spaces opening up, the strongest remaining applicants who have not heard will be waitlisted. Since prior acceptance offers lapse on May 1 if not accepted by then, that is the time when Tulane (and all other colleges) will have certainty on the yield and if there is space remaining I am sure they will go to the waitlist.

@trackmbe3 Thanks that was helpful. Just been a roller coaster with rejection from Rice. Smh. Ready for this to be over.

I already know people who applied early action and got deferred and then found out they were rejected two weeks ago and I only know one person who was deferred and got in around the same time. Most people I know who applied early action and got deferred, like myself, have not heard back yet. I’m just hoping for the best.

@socaligirl487 Fingers crossed for you!

The admissions account tweeted “waitlist decisions will go out this week” does this mean that everyone that hasn’t heard is waitlisted?

@collegehopeful2021chs I personally don’t know, but I think it makes sense that it would be that those who haven’t heard back yet would either be waitlisted/accepted.

Does anyone know how good Tulane’s financial aid is?
