Tulane EA and ED Admission Decisions - Class of 2021

@merrrisatboost when did you apply?

ok… so now i am starting to worry … so many have heard back … and while i thought the ‘why Tulane’ essay was good … maybe it didn’t hit the right tone, go into enough depth about the University … :frowning:

My “Why Tulane” essay is starting to worry me also!

I come from an extremely liberal household where there’s practically a daily joke about “life in the South” and “rednecks” and stuff like that. When I decided to apply to Tulane I was promptly forbidden to apply; my mother maintains that if I’m admitted she won’t let me attend, but I’m starting to wear her down. I wrote about how my entire life I had been so far removed from Southern culture, and when I visited the South for the very first time when I was 16, it was to visit NOLA and Tulane, and how I was initially really put off and startled by the city, the food, and the people, but that I wanted to spend my college experience getting out of my comfort zone and expanding who I was as a person. I basically said “There are hundreds of colleges that would offer me stelar academic programs. There are hundreds of colleges that would push who I am as a person to the edge of possible. There is one college where that overlaps.” I said that much better, but you get the point.

My concern is, at one point, I said “Louisiana is not my home; I’m not sure it ever will be” and then go on to talk about why I want to put myself into this situation because the challenge appeals to me, and that someday I hope it will be my home.

I’m just worried that I kind of closed a door.

@marijke … our is also a liberal household – and NOLA is a pretty damn liberal city ! (school your parents on this!) – I thinker essay offers a unique perspective – that is a bit out of the box so to speak-- and i hope that they value that –

@marijke That sounds like a great “Why Tulane” essay. Good luck!

@chicorymom - That’s what I keep on telling my mom! I think she just hears Louisiana and thinks “Donald Trump”, but once I pointed out that every time she visited me, there would be seafood and dancing, she stopped huffing every time I said the word “Tulane”!

And thank you so much, DebmomNY! I’m hopeful!

@marijke. It might be me, but I think that you spelled “stellar” wrong. I hope that you didn’t copy and paste. @chicorymom relax. When the committee reads the application, you will hear something.

I was just wondering if anyone else was followed on Instagram or another social media by any Tulane accounts? I was today and I know that it probably means absolutely nothing I was just kind of surprised

@marijke you can assure your mom that while Louisiana went red, New Orleans itself was firmly in the Hillary camp  It’s like it’s own country, very unlike the rest of the deep South.

While talking with the admissions office today, they told me that you can receive letters any day of the week but the portal is only updated on Mondays, only Mondays! So even though some people got decisions on thanksgiving, we will not be getting any decisions until Monday… I know we kind of already gathered that but that was just an official thing I thought I would share!!

@chimley do you know if there is a chance for email acceptances again or was that a one time occurrence?

Also couldn’t we potentially get a letter before Monday?

@tem339 I saw earlier on this thread that the admissions office sends letters on Thursday so they often arrive on Monday, but it depends on your location.

@PCJazz - I didn’t copy and paste, and I did misspell that! Sorry about that! I don’t actually think I even used the word stellar in my essay.

@keurig83 I got followed by Tulane dining today!

Should I be worried if I applied EA, all materials submitted by 10/13, and still haven’t received any communication regarding decision?

There are a still tons of people both EA and ED who are waiting for decisions. It’s rolling admissions which makes the process tough.

@marijke you can assure your mom that while Louisiana went red, New Orleans itself was firmly in the Hillary camp It’s like it’s own country, very unlike the rest of the deep South.”

NOLA does have its own distinct culture and demo as compared to much of the deep south. Among other things, lots of Democrats and Catholics and gays.

That also goes even more for Tulane. The top sending states year after year are LA (barely in first place), then followed by NY, NJ, IL, CA, FL, TX. My TU grad kid was from CO and her housemates/besties were from CA, MD, LA, NY and Asia.

@loop2loop Tulane is NOT a rolling admissions school. Applications are not viewed in the order that they are received. If that were true, then everyone who submitted in early October would have found out weeks ago and would have all been admitted, and anyone that applied in late October/November would have a much harder time getting accepted.

@keurig83 and @j990123 my D was followed by Tulane dining yesterday too. She was drooling over the lobster. :))
