@dayeshunlap It truly does not knock you out. Writing additional essays shows continued interest and a different perspective. Part of offering scholarships is about attracting certain students, because merit money really draws students who may have preferred another university in. Keep your head up and don’t quit! The founders scholarship is no small feat.
SAT 1570, GPA 4.3 and AP classes…deferred EA!
My D is disappointed because she really hoped to attend Tulane. We even planned a family trip to visit New Orleans from NY over the holiday break. We thought her grades, scores and activities would make her a very strong candidate for scholarships so naturally we were surprised that she was deferred. She is so discouraged and now wants to withdrawal her application since she believes this also means we will miss out on scholarships. Something doesn’t add up, she was also accepted EA to Boston College, a much higher ranked school…go figure, I know I am bias because its my kid, but it sure feels like Tulane made a bad call.
Did everyone got the update? I didn’t get any update on the portal yet… does is mean rejection?
Still haven’t received an update on portal either
Defferred… really disappointed and I feel like something definitely like something must have went wrong along the way. 34 ACT, great ECS, and I felt like my essay was really strong (had other people tell me too). I got into schools much harder to get into, like Notre Dame, already. I really like Tulane and would have considered going if I got money. Im just really confused right now because I know plenty of people who got in from my area with lower scores and basic ECs. I don’t mean to sound like that person but I’m just confused…
Also did not yet receive my letter in the mail.
Deferred
1490 SAT
3.85 uw, 4.6w
8 APs
Club president, officer in 2 other clubs, a lot of ECs and wide scale awards
Top 7% rank in very competitive high school
Okay Why Tulane essay
@canary101 do not belittle the people who got accepted please! stuff happens and stats isn’t everything. And by what it looks like on this forum, Tulane cares more about ECs and essays rather than GPA and SAT.
Deferred from ED.
I haven’t received a portal update either. @zbthsjunior @pppineewill does the top of your application still say “We now have all materials necessary to review your application” as well?
@syd24ranger yeah I know how you feel. I’m in the exact same situation. But ED folks have a bit of an edge than EA folks and they apparently value interest a lot. So if you didn’t visit the campus then you’re basically disadvantaged compared to people who actually visited and such.
I agree! I hate the stats. There’s so much more to a person than statistics. It’s why my daughter stays away from CC.
Yes my portal still says that @llaauurenn
Yes! Still the same as before
For those who don’t see a status update, someone said earlier that there’s another wave at 6PM CST
@canary101 Yeah I couldn’t visit because I live like a thousand miles away on the east coast. I also wasn’t given an interview so there wasn’t really any other way I could show interest. This just sucks because my whole family thought that was a lock after getting into BC and Notre Dame and that they would give me a little bit of money.
@pppineewill @zbthsjunior @llaauurenn I am in the same spot. were any of you guys pushing deadlines with extra materials, as they received my ACT score on the 27th, the final day, and I am wondering if that has something to do with it…
Ok @zbthsjunior mine as well. did you happen to apply late or send in your act late? I was on time in my time zone but not in Tulane’s… maybe that had something to do with it? Additionally, I realized I somehow hadn’t submitted my ACT score several days later, did either of those things happen with you?
yes @Lukifer2018 I was. I’m assuming that’s it unless other people say otherwise
I got everything submitted on October 9th. But I’m an international student, that is the only thing I could think about might delay the updates.
