Illionoisdad16 asked if anyone got merit aid with an ACT of 30 or lower. My son was very happy (and surprised) to get accepted EA with a 30 ACT and receive $19,000/year academic recognition award. I think his low ACT was offset by his academic rigor. He is in an IB program and has a 3.76 UW GPA and a 4.65 W GPA at a nationally recognized high school. All his junior and senior classes were either AP or IB. Also, he showed a lot of interest. He visited twice–regular tour and for a campus preview day. Not that easy since we are an 8 hour drive, but New Orleans is a fun spot for a long weekend. Also, he met with his admission counselor when she visited his school. So test scores are not the end all, be all to merit aid.
For all those confused about the inconsistencies in acceptance and deferrals, here is another thing to throw into the mix. Tulane has a program that guarantees admission for Louisiana residents as long as the applicant has a 30 ACT and a 3.6 unweighted GPA. This is only for ED/EA. All the other things aren’t important. And a lot of the public schools in Louisiana are really really bad. So think about that as you got deferred with a 35 ACT and APs and a 4.0 GPA from a top rated high school in NJ when someone from Louisiana got in from a failing public school with possible grade inflation.
My d’s acceptance just came in the mail at 4:00 pm TODAY. Postmark was 12/13. Sloooow mail…
When will financial aid be posted on the gibson portal?
My son applied last year and got in he had a 36 ACt and a 3.95 unweighted GPA, but he did visit.@princessbex13
Financial Aud said at the very earliest last week of Jan
@fun1234 hi, I’m confused as to what this is in reply to? It sounds like your son had great scores
Has anyone who was accepted to Tulane not received their packet in the mail yet?
Is the admissions office going to be closed for winter break?
:x
Is there any EA applicant who hasn’t received the admission result from the green wave portal??
me! i haven’t gotten a letter in the mail yet either
No letter yet! But in on the portal (3.9 UW, 1450 SAT, visited and showed interest - it really is a top pick for me)
Just got the letter in the mail postmarked 12/13. And that is why they call it Snail Mail!
D admitted with 27000 usd per annum scholarship. Invited to the Honors Program. International Student.
@unclefester While it is true that a 30 ACT and 3.6 gpa guarantees automatic acceptance, it really isn’t the case that nothing else matters. Tulane calculates the gpa in their system that we do not know of. Many “failing public schools” most likely have few students applying and the majority of applicants probably come from the Catholic schools. And keep in mind that, if I’m not wrong, a little over 10% of instate kids attend tulane. Also, I know of a student being rejected with 35 ACT. He didn’t visit or do the why tulane essay.
when will we know if we got aid other than merit aid? like need based
^^bump
sometime around the end of January if you applied EA
