Tulane EA/ED Decisions Class of 2022

defered

Applied EA. Nothing in the mail yet. Portal hasn’t changed.
Is this normal? Of course, the site says we aren’t supposed to hear until January 15th, but they sent letters out the week of the 18th. Shouldn’t I know by now? Are there others who still know nothing?
For those who already know their decision, did the portal change before you received your letter? Also, what did the portal look like? I’m worried that I am misunderstanding the system.

@stoddard1 I am also in the same situation. I haven’t heard back yet but everyone else at my school already has. Hopefully we will find out soon!

@stoddard1 Same here~~~as an international applicant I wouldn’t count on the mailbox, but nothin change in the portal neither. Guess we have to wait until 15 Jan.

Randomly just got an email today that I was deferred EA. It came out of nowhere because I emailed the admissions office three weeks ago and they said I didn’t qualify for EA in the first place, so to me this makes no difference since I expected to get my decision by April anyways XD.

My stats:
OOS
SAT: 790 M, 650R = 1440
GPA. 3.69 UW, 4.32/4.8W
Extracurriculars: Captain of Varsity Golf Team, Co-Founder of film club, Volunteered at camp for adults with disabilities over the summer, STEM Engineering Club Member, Pianist for 13 years, Demonstrated interest - (All high school events, online chats, mailing lists, etc.)
Applied Engineering

I wasn’t able to visit though. Might contribute to my deferral. They were good, but not great.

Got mine today, got rejected
ACT-30
GPA-3.74UW W-4.76
Welp that sucks Imma go cry into my pillow

I also randomly received an email today that I was deferred EA. It came out of nowhere, because I expected to get notified of my decision on January 15th.
My stats:
SAT: 700 M, 700 = 1400
GPA. 3.98 UW, 4.3W
10 AP classes, 2 dual enrollment
Extracurriculars: Varsity Volleyball since freshman year, International Club member and tour guide (For visiting Spanish schools), Freshmen and Sophomore class secretary and Junior and Senior class president, Volunteered with Red Cross for four years (involved with starting an after school scholars program for struggling readers), Model US Senate member for three years, NHS member since sophomore year (now NHS president), part of the peer mediation team at our school, worked at the movie theater my sophomore year, and was in FBLA and tennis during my sophomore year
Demonstrated interest - As much as I could for living overseas.
Applied for International Studies with the hopes of later applying to the Altman Program.
I’m an American Navy brat who has attended school on a military base In Spain for the past 4 years, so I wasn’t able to visit Tulane. Might have also contributed to my deferral? I love Tulane so I’m writing a letter of continued interest and hoping I get accepted during regular decision! Fingers crossed

It seems that deferred students didn’t get anything in the mail. That created a lot of undue stress for folks. Really should have sent everyone something regardless of the admissions decision. Really disappointed in Tulane. ED2 Gate, now this

It seems a little random - My daughter was deferred - Did not get a letter. Got her notice back in Dec. Not sure if Tulane has done a second binding ED gate before? She is well qualified - 33 ACT, 3.97 UW, 4.4 out 4.5 WGPA - Solid class load with AP’s and Honors, solid EC’s and recommendations. But had not demonstrated a lot of interest but only because of a family situation. Tulane is her #1 but she was deferred. It sounds like some did not get there email that they were deferred until after the 1/5 ED2 gate?

My daughter was admitted SS with 30ACT and 3.7 UV GPS ED 1. We spoke to Jeff Schiffman and said they expect the admissions rate to be < 18% this year. They have never had as much interest ever in the history of Tulane. 5000 kids with ACT over 30 were deferred or rejected.

It was our understanding as well that applications were not only higher but the “quality” had seen similar improvement. We are hoping her commitment in ED2 pays off. Congrats to your daughter

Just got in! (email saying portal was updated)
Accepted with founders award ($80,000)
Was deferred at first early action but now admitted!!

Same here !

Just got in from deferral! Distinguished founders scholarship ($25k per year) + invitation to honors college! 5.09 W 3.96 UW rank 21/575 ACT 33  applied to deans honor scholarship!

Did you recently admitted folks apply ED II?

@pantha33m nope, but I did as advised and emailed my counselor explaining that with substantial financial aid I’d highly consider it, since it’s my #3 school. I also originally submitted the why tulane essay, uploaded an art portfolio (not majoring in art) and applied for the deans honor scholarship

Love Tulane, visited, deferred during EA, switched to ED2 and am now waitlisted. Off to go cry in my room- I know I should be happy because I still have a chance but it’s still made me very sad as Tulane has been #1 for a while and I was very passionate in my essays.

Hint: Tulane not only defers students that are below their admitting quality, they also defer the top top students because they don’t think you’ll end up choosing Tulane and would rather give scholarships to students that are more likely to attend. My friend who was accepted to Brown and Rice and got deferred from Tulane. I was almost deferred, and I got the DHS. For all those deferred but felt like they had a good chance, it’s because Tulane thought you were too good for Tulane. Calling the admission office frantically, like I did, apparently helps.
