Tulane University Early Decision / Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

Bingo! This is the truth. One kid (class of 2023 manga cum laude!) admitted ED2 after deferral, another kid right now waiting on ED2 decision. We live a couple blocks from Tulane now, so…If you do not show serious interest, they will see through it, and they should. On another note, anyone who needs need-based aid, they are close to 100% need met, whether ED or any other round. Tulane is a school like no other, truly. Our kid #2 was so sure she did not want to “stay in the South!” Then we did college tours on the East Coast. She could not put in her ED2 app fast enough.

So I guess ED2 isn’t coming out today?

Wednesday would be my guess, but they will announce on ig.

Is the acceptance rate to Tulane ed1 similar to their ed2?

IDK about Tulane. But at another schools with a similarly high ED acceptance rate (and low RD acceptance rate), I was told the the Admissions office that the ED1 acceptance rate is higher than ED2 acceptance rate. But ED2 is still quite a bit higher than RD. So…not specific to Tulane but it does make sense I think that the ED2 rate would be lower than ED1 (because legacies, recruited athletes and other hooks are all in ED1).

Would you say their ed2 is higher than their ea?

Think about binding vs non binding.

I don’t know the stats but it would be crazy if not. They need butts in seat. No better way than ED anything.

For sure yes!

Yeah I’m just hoping for the best. I went to visit campus, emailed my admissions officer expressing my interest, and I pretty much have the stats to get in. I’m just worried because they defer a lot.

Why worry.

If you have the stats to get in you have plenty of options.

You’ve done what you can.

Control the controllable.

You need them more than they need you.

They need customers.

If you built your list right, you’ll have plenty of schools that assuredly will want you.

I know, it has just been my top for a while and I know that a lot of people from ea switch to ed2 which I’m scared will lower my chances, but I have to remember it is out of my control.

If you can’t commit financially - yes. Tulane is need aware. They like payers.

Never fall in love with a school. There are thousands at their dream schools that transfer out.

There are MANY places you can be successful.

As long as you have an assured and affordable admittance, you’re already ahead of the game!!

I wonder if need-based aid awards come out sooner if they are purely institutional need-aid determined by CSS, while those also including federal need-aid determined by FAFSA may come out later. (Just speculating.) Anyone else hear about need-aid (not just merit)?

Surprised you already got the need-based letter since FAFSA hasn’t processed and transmitted to them yet. I know they use CSS profile as well but thought they used both in conjunction.

Tulane and some other colleges have said they can make conditional/estimated financial aid offers based on CSS only, which will be later finalized when they also get FAFSA. Many posters mention merit awards with admission offers, but I think only one mentioned also getting need-based aid award by now, but that does make it seem there is a chance of getting cost numbers sooner rather than latter.

If they want css, it’s much more detailed. They could easily not need fafsa to determine need. FAFSA is federal, not institutional.

Maybe how you get the money will look different but not the amount.

Right. I posted this link earlier, but I’ll quote more now https://financialaid.tulane.edu/news

Update Regarding the 2024-2025 Financial Aid Application Process

Posted on: Thursday January 11th 2024

Incoming full-time undergraduate students:

The Tulane University Financial Aid Office (FAO) has commenced reviewing completed 2024-2025 financial aid applications for incoming freshmen admitted via the Undergraduate Admission Office’s Early Decision and Early Action portals.

At this time, due to the delayed access to the 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), all aid offers currently extended are solely based on our review of a student’s 2024-2025 College Scholarship Services (CSS) Profile application and consist of “estimated” federal student aid eligibility and “estimated” institutional need-based scholarship. While we expect that our “estimated” aid levels are fairly accurate, it will only be after our receipt and review of a student’s 2024-2025 FAFSA data, that we will issue an updated aid notification detailing all federal student aid and institutional need-based scholarship eligibility levels. Changes to aid offers would occur if reported FAFSA information did not match comparable information reported on the CSS Profile and/or if federal grant calculations and/or allocation levels change.

Probably any CSS college could do similar (and they may have to, to get information out).

Yes, understood merit is different than FA. And agree that since CSS generally provides more information than what’s on CSS (and Tulane requires a signed copy of tax return) - any estimates they provide should be accurate. Just wasn’t aware they intended to formalize the award/estimate.

Yes, when I went to admissions I asked if they were need blind and they said yes, but you never know.

Language from Tulane website:

Tulane offers both merit- and need-based aid programs. All admitted students are considered for merit-based scholarships, and the review process is need-blind .

That phrase is (intentionally?) vague. Clearly the review process of merit based scholarships is need blind - but is Admissions need blind - less clear. I google searched for something more definitive about admissions and was unable to find it.

In any case I think most people have found that the NPC on their site is reasonably accurate to what they saw for an award. That doesn’t mean the NPC $ necessarily fits into the family budget but it gives an idea what to expect.
