Tulane University Early Decision / Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

Is ED2 releasing tomorrow?

The admissions department pretty consistently posts on the instagram (maybe other socials too?) the day before a decision is going to drop.

I think it should be some time this week though. A lot of ed 2 decisions are starting to be released at other schools.

It’s a fair guess to think it should be this week based on the timing of other schools and historical release at Tulane but it’s a guess until they actually post.

Did anyone get a text from Tulane? About asking to withdraw applications if committing to a different school?

Yes I did. Do you think this there is a chance that this is an indicator that we got in or everyone received it? Also, I think this means decisions may come out Friday or soon.

Everyone receives it. Other schools send them as well. As they’re getting into reviewing the different buckets of applications they want to know if someone committed to a different school, “well, we don’t need to review that one then!!”.

Wouldn’t this then mean that their decision release is a long way ahead and not coming out soon though?

For early action Tulane sent out the text message 5 days before they released decisions. So it could be the same case this time around. The main indicator of when will most likely be when they post on their admissions ig.

For a yield conscious school like Tulane they want to minimize ANY acceptances to an applicant that might have already committed elsewhere.

Makes sense.

For anyone that didn’t already see it, Admissions posted on their Instagram page that EDII decisions would be out Monday 2/5 at 4PM CDT. Good luck to all waiting on this round!!

Tulane said decisions are 2/5. It said it will admit spring scholars who were deferred ED1 and EA. Does that mean I can still get in on Monday if I was deferred??

S23 was deferred EA last year. I do remember him having to “accept” the deferral to RD but can’t recall specifically if there was an option to accept consideration for Spring Scholar (which he would not have).

Do you recall if when you were deferred if you had to specify that you would be interested in Spring Scholar?

My DS23 applied ED1 and was deferred to RD. On ED2 day he received notification that he was admitted as a spring scholar.

Yep, but to be fair there aren’t thousands of kids applying to Tulane coming from these top NE boarding schools—if you haven’t attended or had a child do so the level of rigor, competitiveness academically, etc is like a high academic college. The admittance rates at these top boarding schools are the same as Ivies. These kids are prepared to succeed in college because they’ve also successfully navigated living away from home and balancing academics, sports/extracurriculars, social life, etc. so that would be appealing to admissions staff one would think.

But then be fair a school like Tulane has only been considered a socially acceptable “back up” for some and no one wants to be someone’s back up. But with the trend towards kids from these NE schools wanting colleges with warmer weather and a more relaxing pace of school/life has transitioned them to become top choices. It’s no longer Ivies, NESCACS, public “Ivies” or bust. But I’m sure the colleges also look at how many kids who apply and are accepted actually attend so that probably doesn’t help.

In our case, our child didn’t have a #1 but has acceptances at few of his faves including 2 big, southern “public Ivies”. Tulane was in his top 10 so not tragic but we definitely would have had them visit if accepted because every kid student we know who is there or has graduated has loved it! And what parent wouldn’t love visiting Nola!

Does anyone see their Gibson User ID and password? Does this mean anything?

Unless you’re talking about a T-25 school, every school is a reach for some, a target for some and a safety for some. If you look at Tulane’s enrollment a large % of their study body comes from the Northeast.

The issue that many parents/kids make all too late is learning that different schools can have very different admissions criteria and there is a need to cater your application/interactions with certain schools to have a realistic shot there (whether we agree with that criteria or not is irrelevant).

Sounds like your son has some good options ahead of him. He’s in good company of many other kids that got rejected at some schools they thought they would get into.

Was candidacy and admission as a spring scholar voluntary? Do you know whether it’s possible to decline the spring scholar if not offered fall admission if applying ED? Thank you and best wishes to your son.
