TV Show Binge-Watching

Broadchurch - 8 episodes and then you’ll know the answer to Who killed Daniel Latimer?

True Detective. It’s an 8 episode HBO anthology----moody & atmospheric, thinking-man’s crime drama with outstanding acting (Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson) and a spot-on soundtrack (courtesy of T Bone Burnett). The cinematography was movie quality and the story line became much more than a procedural detective story. Really excellent if you’re in the mood for this sort of thing.

The Vikings on the history channel. I don’t like to get hooked on shows, but I’m hooked on this one.

Hey, she was Velma in the Scooby-Doo live-action movies. Isn’t that big?

Where do I find Veronica Mars? Comcast On Demand is only offering it it to buy and I just want to view it once. Also who streams the tv episodes? I can’t find it on Netflix.

I wholeheartedly agree with Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Homeland, The Good Wife. I also like The Walking Dead. For lighter fare, I recommend Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Arrested Development. I had never seen the original Arrested Development so I binge watched it last summer and then watched the newer episodes on Netflix.

We have binge watched the following enjoyably…

The Killing
Downton Abbey
Scandal
The Americans (!!!)
Weeds
Reign
Awake
Lost
Desperate Housewives

We do a lot of TV binging.

Veronica Mars season 1 is available to prime Amazon customers. The movie isn’t free – you have to pay to rent it. We got it through iTunes, but Amazon has it also.

So glad I am not the only one who has binge watched several of these shows.
I will second House of Cards, and Orange is the New Black.

No.

“Scooby-Doo live-action movies”? As in, more than one? That’s not a typo?

Cardellini can act. She was great in a direct-to-video indie movie called Return, and she occasionally pops up with featured guest parts on stuff like Mad Men. I think she played Emily Deschanel on New Girl recently.

You know what else is great (and not that long) that no one has mentioned? Top Of The Lake. Sort of Twin Peaks crossed with The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and set on the South Island of New Zealand. Elizabeth Morris is the central character, and does a really fine job. Jane Campion directed.

Since I just finished 8 seasons of “Bones” on netflix I thought I’d add it to the list…

She had a major part as a nurse on ER for several years and she played Sylvia Rosen on Mad Men in season 6. I’d call both of those “bigger things”!

^ was just about to post about her major role on ER.

Freaks and Geeks was awesome, especially for those who went to high school in the 70’s or 80’s. Even better for me since it was modeled after my own (and Judd Apatow’s) high school. He followed it up with Undeclared, about college freshmen in the 80’s. I’m binge watching that now.

I’m also watching Ally McBeal now. Forgot how good that show was.

And I must recommend binging on my favorite show of all time, The West Wing. Saw it when originally aired, and binge watched it twice, still get chills. You will never see better writing and acting anywhere.

Martin Short?!

Martin Short was not on Freaks and Geeks. Poster must have meant Martin Starr, who played the geekiest of the geeks. The show did have before-famous cameos by Shia LaBeouf, Ben Stiller, and David Krumholtz.

I second The Killing. I BW’d the whole series recently after knee surgery and loved, loved, loved it. Quirky with great acting! I then moved on to Dexter- enjoyed it at first but then got bored with it and finished by watching only a couple of episodes of the last few seasons.

Linda Cardellini was also in Brokeback Mountain which won scads of awards and is the newest addition to “The New Girl”.

If you like Undeclared than you’ll also like Greek.

For those who have watched The Wire, other than DVD, is there any other way to watch it? H and I are wanting to start it, but can’t find it on Netflix.

We streamed the entire series via HBO GO. You need to be an HBO subscriber, however.

I don’t know about “valuable”, but I’m a parent and big fan. Definitely not for everyone, very dark. Love when Dennis tells the psychologist in “The Gang Gets Analyzed” episode that he has a background in academic psych and went to an Ivy League college (he is a Penn drop out) and not Lasalle like the therapist.

To counterbalance “Sunny”, I’ll recommend a surprisingly sweet comedy from Ricky Gervais on Netflix, “Derek”. Have a few hankies ready.
