Twitter- Parents- do you have it and use it?

As part of my Alzheimer’s prevention plan in addition to exercise I try keep up with technology. I am behind on the music and news apps scene however. D2 tells me that the ‘younger’ kids are using twitter and not facebook. Do you use twitter, and how hard is it to sign up, use, and communicate with others?

No and I have no plans to. I’m on the computer/phone enough as it is.

I had to get a Twitter account for a team project. It is very easy to sign up. If you do not follow too many avid twitterers, you will not get too much of that self-inflicted spam.

No.

Yes, I have a twitter account, and follow a number of interests. I post occasionally, but mostly retweet things. My kids are surprised that I have 700+ followers. I tell them that it is because I am so fabulously interesting (ha ha).

It’s really easy. Email, and create a name for yourself, and you are good to go. Just start following people who say interesting things and people will follow you.

I have a twitter account but I have never used / posted on it. I do know the twitter accounts of a few other people and I periodically will check what they have to say, but not on a regular basis.

I don’t post but really like Twitter

I’ve been on Twitter a few years. Though I do contribute on it - mostly work related - I mostly suck info out of it. I enjoy Twitter very much, but for a totally different purpose than FB. For me Twitter is the more “intellectual” portion of social media for me - most who follow me or who I follow is work related.

I do love Twitter and it is my main source of news and what is going on in the world. I retrieve lots of research, updates, tips, etc. for work via other educators/professionals.

Twitter is my favorite social media- and I use a lot of social media. I have a great time with fellow fans of my favorite college sports team, and have made good friendships. I get immediate local and national news from Twitter. People are VERY clever. It takes some time to figure it all out, but I have really enjoyed the accounts that I follow and I believe I have become a valued contributor to the circles I am in.

I know there is that Twitter “universe” that is much like FB in the bantering back and forth and following your neighbors, friends, etc. I don’t partake in that part. That’s probably what I attribute the “intellectual” part of Twitter to - because I don’t let it serve the same purpose as FB.

H and youngest use it. My two older kids-25 and 30, do not, and I don’t either. H uses it for work and to follow all his sports people and a couple of TV shows and celebrity chefs. He also follows D so he can keep an eye on what she says. She talks to her friends and follows a few celebrities (ugh). She and her friends are still very active on Facebook-they are in high school.

Twitter is excellent for news or weather events happening at the moment. You get up to date, first hand info. Great for power outages and reporting.

Also fun to watch certain TV programs -even a Presidential speech- while following those posting about that subject. Very interesting and usually pretty hilarious.

I hate Twitter. It feels disorganized. Give me a nice, old-fashioned message board any day.

Singed up 1-2 years ago and have good account name w my full name. Do not use it, however. I don’t see the point.

Kids (17 & 21) say Instagram is the way to go. They also use snapchat all the time. I have it & they send me pics, but I can’t figure out how to send my own. I just take pic and text to them. I feel very old!

Have an account; rarely use it. H is on it daily, but neither of my kids are on at all. Conversation seems so disjointed/missing; i prefer the long FB threads. My H belongs to a group in his work area and that makes sense for him, but I’ve never found a handle into it.

Here[/url”>How to Use Twitter (with Pictures) - wikiHow]Here is a simple rundown of how to use Twitter.

Important to know that tweets are generally public so be careful what you say. Much Twitter activity is people retweeting interesting stuff, often with a bit of comment. And some of that retweeting is people trying to grab attention as a source for others to follow. You don’t have to do that.

Another big thing has been # tags. They organize tweets so #bananas would be all tweets that include #bananas.

I think of Twitter as a public messaging system. Since kids in particular tend to message instead of email or phone, you can see the use.

I signed on and never used it, but later found out my account was hijaked and someone else was. I shut it down.

I have an account that I check daily, but I never tweet. I love to follow the British Royals and SCOTUS and Twitter is a good way to follow both. Also a great way to get tennis updates from Wimbledon and the US Open.

It’s not for everyone. But it also takes some time and “skill” (meaning time!) to find the right niche for you. I find it “deeper” than FB even though you only have 140 characters to communicate. Seriously, I am so much more informed about things locally, in my state, in my interests and in the world because of Twitter. Best of all, it’s a quick resource for all these things. Not too much to read, easy to scan, etc.

Each social media medium has different things to offer. They are only redundant if you use them in a redundant way - to accomplish the same thing. I use each medium in different ways.

I have an acct but have never tweeted. I just use it to follow the goings on at my kids’ schools.
