@homerdog I spent a lot of time on the website but it wasn’t clear to me about the presidential scholarship notification date and process. So now I realize that if you haven’t been notified yet on presidential that you will not be getting it. Scholars seems even more competitive and now I see that they will be notifying just the finalists by 2/1. I’m sure my son will not be one of them. Congrats to those that got merit aid!
@collegemomjam Actually in the Q&A in the blog from admissions above it says Richmond Scholar finalists who are not awarded the scholarship are automatically awarded the presidential - so assuming nothing has changed, your son could still be named a Richmond Scholar finalist before 2/1 and then would automatically have the presidential if he doesn’t win the full COA.
According to the Richmond website (fact sheet), there are merit scholarships that are awarded to ED applicants… called Trustee Scholarships. My son was admitted ED but did not receive one but, then again, did not expect to. Hope that helps some!
International EA applicant from South Africa. Accepted!
Stats: 1510 SAT (not a super score). 800 Maths 2/ 800 French/ 790 Physics.
+Fun fact: Full need student awaiting the financial aid award. Historically they have offered students from my high school a full ride (no merit only aid).
+Background: International Boarding High School. Intending to study International Relations and Applied Mathematics in Economics.
Super excited as this is my first acceptance (My ED school, which is an ivy, deferred me) I am requesting to join the Facebook group at the moment. Looking forward to (virtually) meeting all of you!
Realized I didn’t share stats, so here is some hopefully helpful information for future applicants! I know I always found this kind of data interesting.
32 ACT (super scored, 31 otherwise), no hooks, applied EA and received presidential scholarship. I don’t know if the “What We Saw In You” was personalized or not but they cited my Richmond supplement as being particularly strong, so maybe that helped?
Congrats to all! Hope to meet some of y’all at an accepted students day!
@JhonStuartMill Congratulations! Richmond guarantees to meet full need for all admitted students, so make sure your financial aid application is in order, and you should be in great shape!
Can students who are accepted but still weighing their options join the Facebook group? Or is it just for students who know they are absolutely going to go to Richmond?
Something useful from a previously mentioned link regarding scholarships:
“And for others reading this post who may have received the Presidential, that doesn’t mean you’re not still in the running for Richmond Scholars. The two processes are separate – Richmond Scholars selection is made by the Scholars Office and faculty committees – so it’s quite possible that the Admission Committee selected a student for the Presidential Scholarship who will also be selected as a Richmond Scholars finalist. If you ultimately receive the Richmond Scholars award, it replaces your Presidential Scholarship (since RS is full-ride).” from Tom Nicholas on Richmond’s admissions blog
