Swimming was great! Katie Ledecky!!! What an incredible talent. Really happy for Simone Manuel.
Sounded like great success in Indy.
Manuel- what a comeback, inspiring.
Just watched Athing Mu’s heartbreaking 800 m. So sad for her.
Going to Eugene for a day to see the track finals. It should be inspiring!
So jealous!! My S25 is a track athlete, we would love to be there.
While I feel bad for Mu, she clearly cut across into a crowd. We should also feel bad for the runner she got tangled with, whose race was hindered by Mu’s choice to cut into the crowd. This stuff happens in shorter races, unfortunately (and I can’t believe I called the 800 “short,” but these athletes run incredibly fast).
I would love for them to either rerun or consolidate the swimming and track trials into something that could still be watched prior to Paris. Time and schedule just hasn’t allowed me to watch much - but I’d love to over more time to know the names and such for the Olympic events!
Peacock has them all, some cable providers provide free access depending on plan (xfinity does in my area). Cost isn’t too bad, maybe $6/month or so and Peacock will also have all Olympic events live and then on demand.
Yes, and Mu has been injured and hadn’t raced since the fall. Such high stakes.
I have Peacock! I’ll have to see if I can find…I haven’t used “on demand” before.
Great! Just click on ‘sports’ in the top menu, and you will see tons of options by sport/event. They even put together some highlight type videos if you don’t want to watch everything.
Been watching it all and am especially happy for the men’s steeplechase qualifier from little Carleton College, ds1’s alma mater!
I’m an Allie Ostrander fan so I’m excited that she qualified in women’s steeplechase!
Indeed! Lots of youngsters stepping up on men’s side, too!
Such great talent and many interesting rivalries.
Gymnastics trials are this upcoming weekend in Minneapolis.
It’s always crazy to me that they are just qualifying like a month before the Olympic events - it seems they should have MONTHS to prepare! (I mean, I know they are preparing “forever” but like to really put that hat on that says “you are one representing our country in the Olympics!”
Do family members buy tickets ahead of time hoping or are they scrambling to find tickets now for qualifying family members??
My sister in law and nieces are there, one runs marathons and both girls ran track in college.
There are gymnastics competitions leading up to the trials where gymnasts have to qualify to move forward. At this point, there are a limited number of gymnasts competing for Olympic spots. For women’s gymnastics there are 16 women and 20 men. USA Gymnastics organizes these events and the gymnast families have access to tickets. They aren’t scrambling to get them. Also, USA Gymnastics chose Minneapolis as the site of the trials last year. So families knew how far they would have to travel.
It was shocking to see the defending discus world champion foul out three times and fail to qualify! One of her throws was really wild and ended up on the track–so glad no one was injured.
