UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread

Hi everyone.
Been stressing out lately over this, and wondering what my chances are for admission and getting the Regents Scholarship.

Ethnicity: Middle Eastern

Economic Background: Upper-Middle Class

Residence: CA

GPA: 4.0

Major: Political Science

EC: Student Government, College Newspaper, Student Ambassador, Religious Community Service, Community Service, Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society, published poet, 2 internships at 2 different California State Departments, work experience.

Essays: Solid ( I would rate 7-8/10 )

If ya’ll could please me know what I should be expecting!

I’m visiting Berkeley on the 28th of this month. The only downside I see is that if I like it, the last month of waiting will be even more agonizing.

@Cheolf Oh, I’m sure you’ll love it. You HAVE to look into a bunch of the libraries (although I dunno when their Spring Break is).

@goldencub For years Berkeley was my dream. Something about it just spoke to me. I think over time family influence corroded that desire a bit. I definitely will look into the libraries, if possible. I’ve seen pictures of them, and let’s just say I was left in awe.

Anything else you’d recommend checking out?

@Cheolf The restaurants, walk on Sproul, visit the Campanile (huge clocktower that dings every hour, and plays music sometimes), maybe check out San Francisco (I hate it personally). Walk all over campus (unless it’s raining), etc.

Where/how long are you staying?

@goldencub
Have you received acceptances from any schools?

@JacobfromCA No. I didn’t apply to UCSD or UCR, though.

@goldencub I see. Thanks!

I go to a cc but live right near berkeley’s campus if anyone has questions about living here.

Does anyone know roughly what time of day decisions will be up? I’m trying to plan the 29th accordingly.
Thanks!

It was exactly 5 pm last year.

I am at Berkeley City College as well, if anyone has questions regarding the area, and some things on campus for STEM majors. I did research on the campus last summer and got very familiar with it.

Cross-posting from other threads. I hope that’s okay. :smiley:

Major: Psychology
UC GPA: 3.32
Major GPA: 3.23
Personal Statement: 9/10 (I explained that the reason why my GPA is so low is because I had suffered from depression and failed classes for a couple of semesters before dropping out and taking a break, and then used that to explain why I’m passionate about psychology.)
ECs: Community college honors program, president of two clubs, member of another, employed as a College Relations Ambassador, and was once an intern for 7 Cups (though I don’t know how highly they’re going to value that due to the fact that it’s an online internship instead of an in-person one).

I don’t think I’m going to get in. I think I had a better shot before last semester. My grades went from really good (3.8-4.0 range) to awful (2.95) because I was taking too many units at once, and they were all subjects that I’ve never been good at. I really want to be accepted, but I’m starting to convince myself that it won’t be the end of the world to be denied from Berkeley if I get accepted to UCSB or somewhere equally as nice.

@ohwellcollege I’m at BCC as well! There’s a good amount of people on CC that go through the Peralta system.

Does anyone have that UC 2016-2017 Transfer Admission Guide that’s like 40 pages long and says what schools read the personal statement and what schools don’t? I know the University of California puts it out, but I can’t find it on Google.

@100789 I believe this is what you’re looking for and it appears to be the most recent as it was published September 2015: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/quick-reference-2015.pdf
It says which campuses consider your personal statements in the selection process on page 36.
Hope this helped (:

@CATransfer2016 That is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much! :smiley:

Done with midterms. 8-X

@boxandwhiskers
On nice! Whats your major?
I am really hoping UC Berkeley pulls from local ccs

@ohwellcollege I’m a Sociology major.
According to Wikipedia, BCC has the fifth highest transfer rate to UC Berkeley. But the fifth highest transfer rate to UC Berkeley in 2004-2005, which was a long time ago.
