UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread

@100789

I’d say you have around a 10% chance of getting in. Top-tier UC’s like UCLA and UC Berkeley put heavy emphasis on maintaining a high GPA, naturally due to the rigor of their courses. Anything below 3.4 is an automatic reject, unless there is a very compelling reasoning behind it, in which case, you still have a lifeline.

The 10% figure is coming from the fact that you have: 1) great EC’s and 2) (what I assume to be) persuasive essays.

Good luck!

To clarify for the applicants who were asked/offered an interview supposedly meant to test English proficiency:

@ElevatedThinking I figured I had a slim chance due to the fact that my cumulative GPA is a wreck. Unfortunately, it’s a wreck because of mistakes I made almost a decade ago. I was hoping they would be understanding of that fact and would X them out on the application. As of right now, those mistakes read as ARs on my application instead of actual Fs because I was recently granted AR for those by my current college, so I don’t /actually/ know what my cumulative GPA is, but according to the UC transcript printout my CCC gave me last semester, I have a 3.3 without any kind of AR. I’ve pretty much resigned to thinking I’d be lucky to get in, but I’m not counting on it. I love UCSB just as much, and would not be heartbroken if I got into UCSB but was rejected from UCB. Thanks for chancing me, though. I really appreciate it!

Can someone chance me.

I got the email about a possible interview, but I did not get the follow up email. Not sure if it is a good or bad.

Applied: UCLA - UCSD - CAL - UCI - UCSB - USC
Accepted: CSUF

We all got the initial email, but only a handful are being interviewed. I wouldnt worry about it, its the first year they’re doing admissions this way and they’re really just testing it out. And your GPA looks good (same as me actually), youve got a lot of prereqs this last semester though, not sure how that would look. Also you didnt post any EC’s or job experience, if your banking on academics alone then your chances are slim, but Im sure thats not the case.

In state applicant

CS/ECs/Honors: Accounting Society - Chemistry Undergraduate Research UCI - School Volleyball Team- PTK Honors society - Microbrewery Club - Volunteer at a boarding care facility for Alzheimers dementia patients. - Deans List

Note: I have a lot of science EC - I used to be a Chem Major and got accepted to 4 UC last year - UCI/UCSD/UCSB/UCD (Brewing Science Program).

Job: Run import export company based out of Japan US and Vietnam.

First Generation College student
Chicano

The reason i’m taking so many prereqs this semester is because I changed my major from Chem to Business Admin, and I wanted to finish my major requirements in one year. If i’m able to pass my classes with A, does it make a big difference that i’m taking so many major req?

I got invited to interview for Haas, anyone know what that entails (questions, tips, etc.) ?

I wouldnt know, chances are its not a big deal if youve already crushed some of those intense science classes. EC’s look good, you’ll probably get in IMO

I did not get an email, but Ive had an interview with two other schools and I would say come prepared with at least 2 followup questions that show your interest in the school as well as demonstrate the fact that youve done personal research into the major. Like “Ive read that we can study abroad but how does that affect the curriculum?” just an example. Also listen for questions that lean towards a positive impression like “what would prevent you from attending this school” “Is this your first choice” “What other schools have you applied to” Be honest of course but cater your answers to them, so something like “I applied to this and this school, but their programs dont have a strong support history of veterans/asians/latinos/etc. like your school”

These questions were asked in one of my interviews:
Whats up with your high school grades? Why did you join the military? When did you decide to pursue a college degree? What was the hardest thing about being a Marine? Why this particular major? Why are you applying to this school? What do you plan to do at this school? Why are you going to college? Is a liberal arts education important? Is dealing with traditional students intimidating?Any questions for me?

Replace the military stuff with whatever you feel makes your application stand out. Good luck!

There’s so many chance posts going on lately, much more than I’ve noticed in previous years UC transfer threads…

@sugarbabies3 I think it’s because people want to be reassured or explained to what their chances might be based on what their peers honestly think. Plus, this year was the year UCB received a “record number” of applications, and the transfer deadline was extended to allow more people to apply, so we’re all freaking out! :frowning:

@100789 I totally get that. I’m right there with you all. But normally a new thread is created on the transfer forum vs. people continuously posting to each and every UCI, UCB, UCLA, etc transfer thread. It just makes it hard for future potential transfers to sift through all of the chances. Especially taking into consideration that I am one of those that has literally looked at the previous UC transfer threads (as far as 2013), it would have been hell sorting through them all with so many chance posts. But just my opinion.

@sugarbabies3 I understand. Maybe most people don’t know that there are separate threads? I have no idea, lol.

Lol Yea I was just trying to point it out so maybe people start making their own threads
I get excited to see new posts here, but pull my hair out a little when it’s just another chance post haha. I want to hear about what’s going on!

You will all know your decisions with 100% accuracy very soon. Nothing to be gained from wild speculation on whether you’ll get in a month before you find out for sure

Hey everyone! Would you mind chancing me?

Major: Statistics
GPA: 3.8
IGETC: Completed by spring
Pre-req: Yes
TAG: TAP for UCLA and Berkeley, TAG for Davis
Personal Statements: Fairly good, 8-9/10
Applied: UCLA, Cal, UCSD, UCSB, Davis, Cal Poly SLO
Admitted: Cal Poly SLO

@boyofrito
No point in asking any of us when you will know in a month for sure :stuck_out_tongue: I’d say you have a shot, but really nobody will no for sure until the 29th, so we have to play the waiting game

I just got my grade for winter quarter. Do I need to update my score?

Is anyone planning to go to CAL day in April? I’m from an Orange County CC, and my school’s transfer center is having a northern California tour. It will be nice to check out the school before decisions are out.

@omex666 You can update it, but it won’t really make a difference to your application. They already have the information they’ll use for decisions.
