Hey Just a general question, but if I took an online statistics course from StraighterLine would it be unacceptable or considered insufficient? Only reason I ask is because the course $25 and I dont really want to wait until next semester to take it
@eruditehooper **** ?
@tooweirdyo I think a lot of people got that message and it’s really just a formality. I swear I got it a few weeks ago, though I can’t seem to find it.
I think it’s just acknowledging that you have winter quarter grades and you need to submit them.
I don’t really have anything to prove it though.
Ah, found it. Mine was directly from Haas in an email that went out to all Haas applicants: “If you attend a college on a quarter system, please e-mail us your winter grades as soon as possible. Also if your Spring schedule changed from what you included in the Berkeley-Haas Supplement please e-mail us your updated schedule. Send the updated grade and/or schedule information to uginfo@haas.berkeley.edu. Include SAR Update in the subject line.”
Not exactly the same thing but similar.
Regardless, try not to look into any of this cause it’ll do you no good and it’s not even April yet. Just do what they ask, hope for the best, continue to do your best, and don’t let any of this weigh you down.
@goldencub Sorry, I guess the forum prohibits the website? But “Straighter Line”
It’s not even April yet!!
X_X
@eruditehooper I woudn’t do it. None of the UC’s are listed as partner schools.
Are you applying this cycle, or next?
Next @goldencub
@briank82 Ah, I see. Thank you for clarifying that. I’m not applying to Haas, but it would make sense that it’s more of a formality… I personally think it wouldn’t be fair to take into account grades that don’t exist for the rest of the candidates who aren’t on the quarter system, like the semester kids who have just fall and spring. That would sort of make it unfair for people on the quarter system by holding us to a higher standard… evaluating us (perhaps in comparison to a seat available vs. other quarter candidates) based on additional criteria that doesn’t go across the board. That’s what I was thinking was the case when I saw the message that that’s what they were doing (hence the borderline comment I made earlier) but it doesn’t sound fair haha. Hope you’re right.
Any of you on this board right now-- if you’re on the quarter system did you get the reporting winter quarter grades message, too?
@eruditehooper What’s your major? Are you following IGETC?
Personally, I found basic knowledge in Statistics to be really useful/helpful. I’m definitely glad I took it as an in-person course at my CC - taking it online would likely be unnecessarily difficult, or dull (given what I know about online classes).
If you are interested in knocking out requirements/units, I took an class on the quarter system over the Winter quarter, and it was pretty easy (although the final is this week, so I shouldn’t speak so soon). It was at Foothill College - 5 units, not too much work. I recommend it. It’s better than taking an 8-week session at CC, and the pace isn’t nearly as fast as summer classes. It’s been pretty easy to juggle 4 semester classes (12 units) and the 5 unit quarter system class. I think the timing works out well in the Fall - and exams roll around at different times on the semester and quarter system, so that sort of offsets your workload. @SDGoldenBear recommended it to me, and it’s worked out well. It’s best to do that for fairly easy/manageable GE’s, though. It’s probably best to not take Stats online, unless you’re sure you can do well. If you are going to take it online, do it through your CCC, or another one.
@tooweirdyo I didn’t get anything about updating winter grades (taking an online class at Foothill, as mentioned), but I’ll do it anyway when I get my grade back.
Yeah I’m in quarter based college too, but as far as I know none of my friends got inquiry about winter grades from Berkeley. But getting an email from berkeley admission is good indication. They are interested in you and giving you further consideration. A couple of my friends who got inquiry from Berkeley last year actually got in.
If anyone could chance me I would really appreciate it I’m so nervous

Does anyone know if cal automatically eliminates you if you updated your TAU on MAP late? I updated my TAU on my actual application on time, but I didn’t update it on my MAP until 2 days or so after the deadline. Do I still stand a chance? Or is that automatic rejection?
@goodkidmaadcity I don’t necessarily think so, I remember reading last year’s thread and someone got accepted who turned their TAU in a little late and thought for sure that would have disqualified him!
@browneyedgirl95 Thanks for the insight! I’m hoping its not too unforgivable since I updated my TAU on my application on time.
Would anyone chance me?
