UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread

@TheLlamaRider All I have to say is wow. What an incredible accomplishment. Good for you! It sounds like you definitely deserved it.

Anyone here a TAP student?

Man I am so nervous. The waiting is killing me.
Can anyone chance me?
Major: Mechanical Engineering
GPA: 4.0
IGETC: completed but in assist.org it said Igetc is not required.
Major Prereqs: Will complete by the end of this semester
EC: very minimum. some volunteer work and some construction assisting work. total about 80 hours.
Completed 4 class of honor (lacking 1 more). But UCB does not have TAP for my school so I don’t think this will change anything.
Personal Statement: absolutely terrible, I am guessing 6/10 for both. I just don’t know what to write about since I have no work experience and no amazing come back from hardships.
Applied: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCD

Knowing that UCB love their holistic approach, my personal statement might bite me.

Also I have 60 units so far (not including this semester). This is my third year at CC.
I am a US citizen. Low income, and first gen

@hdoan24 A few of us are. I am.

@BigPanda My husband’s in the same boat and a lot of your stats are similar to each other. Good luck! We’re only 5 weeks away from knowing all the decisions!

@saim2695 Hello, So i actually went to 4 different community colleges. I was able to finish all my strongly recommended in one of the community colleges I went to. It was about 30-45 min away from my house. It was worth going for because all the classes that I needed for all the UC’s were offered there, but it was also not worth going for because it took up a massive amount of my time commuting so far. As to what i can recall asking around other UCB engineers, a couple of them did not finish their strongly recommended because it was not offered in their area as well. I can’t say as to what they did in addition though, which is what probably got them in.

Already I can’t sleep at night :((

@sugarbabies3 Yes! I am a Cal student now. Speaking just about the engineering program, so far I am immensely surprised the the amount of programs offered. I mean that in the sense of tutoring, research, scholarships, counseling, clubs, etc. It makes me overwhelmed in a way because I feel that I want to do everything in the short time I’m going to be here at Cal, but I’m taking one step at a time. I really enjoy speaking to the engineer faculty so far. They’re very wise. Sometimes they can come of a little intimidating, but when you take the time to actually speak to them one on one you’ll start to notice that all they want is for every one of their students to succeed. I think they understand the amount of pressure Berkeley puts on their engineering students. ,

@PantherDuck Thank you! I hope everyone on here does well in whichever school they choose to go to! =D

@hdoan24 I was actually a TAP student! I forgot to mention that on my post. I actually remember a lot of TAP students doing very well…

Damn I only completed one of the strongly recommended course. Just can’t find any community college around that offers yhem

@BigPanda you completed one more than me. I wasnt able to find any cc’s nearby that offered them.

@TheLlamaRider @briank82 Good luck to you all! My GPA is on the lower scale… so I’m a little bit worried. I’m not sure how influential tap is but they boast an amazing acceptance rate

They just released the freshman decisions around 4 PM today. Hopefully it’ll be the same time for us?

As long as it isn’t when i’m in Anthro lecture between 9-12. That wouldn’t be fun.

I was looking at the freshman decision forum. So many of them have amazing GPA and SAT got rejected :-S

I was on the fence before, but as April nears I find myself drawn more and more to Berkeley. My preference will be solidified or broken this Monday when I visit!

@BigPanda Don’t sweat too much about that. Transfer admission into the UCs (and especially Cal) is much easier than freshman admissions.

I have a question. Do UC admission look at your major GPA or overall GPA?
