UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread

@BigPanda Overall transferable GPA. I do think UCLA looks at major GPA, though (but I’m not 100% sure).

They will look at the grades you earned for classes in your major, though. In a way, that’s considering major GPA.

@goldencub Thanks!

ok what the heck is this:
" Mechanical Engineering created three new lower division course requirements:
Engineering 25, Engineering 26 and Engineering 27. With the creation of these
three new classes, Engineering 10 and 28 are no longer required of Mechanical
Engineering students, and effective Fall 2014 will no longer be taught at UCB.
Beginning Fall 16 the College of Engineering will allow transfer students who
have taken the equivalent of Engineering 28 to petition to use that course as
partial completion of the three new requirements"
damn I just noticed that. I completed Engineering 28. It is too late to petition?

Edit: I sent a email to BerkeleyEngineering. Why Berkeley why…

As if engineering prerequisites weren’t complicated as it stands! :-/

Berkeley just emailed me asking to see a syllabus from one of my classes. Anxiety is really starting to set in!

@ally96 which school did you apply to?

@ally96 You’rea philosophy major, right? Which class? I presume it’s a prereq.

@TheLlamaRider thanks for your reply. Which community college did you get all the courses at?

@ibtes96 College of letters and science in the philosophy program! and yes @goldencub I am! It was a first year seminar class from my previous college (small private in CA)

It seems to be the year of the philosophy major! B-)

Has there been a case where someone receives the Leadership Award, or any of the other awards, but ends up getting rejected to the school? Just curious, considering decisions for those are coming out soon.

@ally96 Ah, nevermind. Good luck! Did you take any of the major prereqs for Berkeley, out of curiosity?

Are we required to update the grades for winter quarter? Is there any negative impact if we do not update the grades? or Is there any advantage if we update the grades?

I’m so excited to finally visit Berkeley tomorrow :-bd

@Cheolf The weather should be nice tomorrow - and Cal’s spring break is over, so you’ll be able to go into buildings and whatnot. Have fun, and try not to get a parking ticket.

@Cheolf if you’re staying at Berkeley for dinner I’d recommend you go to Cheese Board Pizza, or Gather if you’re fancy like that. Make sure to check out the town too, it’s a beautiful city surrounding a beautiful campus.

Hello. I’m EECS major applicant. I was intended to finish all my prereqs in this semester and I wrote such way on my application portal. Now I realized that I cannot follow up one ‘Natural Science Requirement’ class, so I am thinking of dropping the class. (I don’t think I could get more than C even if I try very hard)

So if I drop that class, would they withdraw my application? I know EECS is very competitive, but I wonder if dropping class could make it 0% to enter Berkeley.

Thanks!

@chuclan21 Yea, you need to satisfy at least one course from Natural Science for eligibility. I’m an EECS applicant too, maybe check if any of your other courses satisfy it.

@chuclan21
Failure to complete all the requirements makes you not eligible to apply for EECS, so yes, it makes you 0% to be accepted by Berkley. I would not drop the class no matter what grade I receive. I would explain the reason of getting the bad grade.

For anyone that is considering Berkeley and hasn’t visited yet, you must. I just visited for the first time today. The campus is gorgeous. It feels like it has a pulse, if that makes any sense.

Visiting UCSB tomorrow and UCLA on Wednesday!
