UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread

Guess I must not drop the class until April 29th, when the decision comes.

@chuclan21 Decisions are contingent on you completing the provisions they set (and what you agreed upon). If you’re accepted and then drop the class, they can and would quickly rescind your acceptance. Especially for an impacted major. Your best bet is to either tough out the class with a C or accept the fact that you’re not getting into Cal.

Can anyone tell me my chances of getting to UCB?
Major: Applied Math
GPA: ~3.78
I’ve gotten an A in every math class I’ve taken at my CC
I think my personal statement’s are meh
Ec’s: I’ve just had 2 jobs, besides that, nothing much
I’m finishing up IGETC this semester and I’m also taking Calc 3 and differential equations
I feel like my gpa is too low and I don’t have the ec’s to help me get accepted, am I right?

@Cheolf You’ll like UCLA better. =P

Anyone get accepted to UC Santa Barbara?? just got my news today! :smiley: super cool opening an admission acceptance lol I got a burst of energy or a high ahah

@goldencub i have 3 prereqs done!

I’m in my last semester, but I have to drop a class! Ill get a W, but the class isn’t a major pre req or needed for general ed? Will a W affect my chances? Or should I wait until they decide and then tell them I have a W

Does anyone know what Berkeley’s conditions of acceptance usually is for the spring semester? Im an College of Engineering applicant and am wondering what kind of GPA theyll ask for me to maintain this semester after a potential acceptance.

I don’t know you guys, or the life hurdling circumstances causing you to drop CC classes after you already paid good money to apply to transfer…but seriously, I’d reccomend you stay in your classes if you can. It doesn’t matter what your GPA or ECs are, but neither having enough units or your pre-reqs/IGETC completed because of a dropped class would probably lead to a denial/rescindance of acceptance.

Honestly, if you think CC is hard, just wait until you enter the Big Boy League…you know…Cal Berkeley. For the most part, Community College is kindergarten compared to the UC system especially LA/CAL/SD.

I’ve had CC classes that were more difficult than the class I took at Berkeley, FWIW. I don’t think all CC classes are incredibly easy.

Anyway, I just got my grade for a winter quarter class - do y’all think updating my TAU and emailing the schools would be worth the trouble?

@blsUCtransfer Nope you are fine. I talked to UCSB (accepted)/UCB/Davis admissions yesterday, and as long as you still meet the IGETC requirements, the 60 unit threshold, and the prereqs required for your major, you’re fine.

@hdoan24 they didnt mention gpa?

@blsUCtransfer,

I’d expect the CoE requirements to be at least a 3.0 average at every individual school you attend to maintain their definition of “good standing”.

If you have a lot of in-progress major prereqs, it’s also reasonable for them to ask for no less than a “B-” in applicable courses.

@blsUCtransfer 3.0 gpa for Spring semester. Use your W’s strategically

March 29! One calendar month…

@goldencub Whoops. I forgot to update the TAU, but just did because of your post. Haas asked us to email them final grades, which I did last week but just updated the TAU now.

I’m not worrying about it with my other schools as it won’t really matter much, but I definitely did with Berkeley and I’d probably recommend the same. Anything helps.

Can someone chance me?

GPA: 3.92
Personal Statement: I would say 8.5/10
College: College of Natural Resources
Major: Nutritional Sciences
Pre-Reqs: I didn’t complete a few of the Berkeley ones for my major :frowning: (I am out of state so it was very tough for me to know which courses I needed to complete)
Applied: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB
Accepted: UCSB!
Denied: None

Does not completing all of the pre-reqs really hurt my chances of acceptance? I’m kind of freaking out. I want UCB SO BADLY! (Like the rest of you I’m sure, haha)

Another college of natural resources applicant!

My boyfriend has a 3.6 GPA and applied for Mechanical Engineering he is a transfer from ccc and has lots of EC’S while working for the state as a student engineering assistant.

I am also a CCC transfer but a sociology major with a 4.0 and lots of EC’S and worked two jobs. I was just accepted to UCSD and crossing my fingers for UCB!

We completed all of our pre requs and our personal statements where both really good! what are our chance of being accepted?

@TransferJ if he had solid personal statements, he may have a chance. Did he complete any of the highly recommended classes? What’s his major GPA?

My husband’s also a MechEng transfer.

You have a good shot

Yes he completed the highest math, chemistry, and physics. After transferring he would only be doing his core engineering courses.
His major GPA is also a 3.6

How cool!
