@transferJ those courses are required courses, not recommended courses. Thermodynamics, numerical methods with matlab, and statics/dynamics/mechanics of materials are the main recommended courses for us. Full sequences of calculus, physics, and chemistry are required along with differential equations, linear algebra and two English classes. Not completing the recommended courses can make it very difficult to catch back up once you transfer and you will need to take GD&T + graphics at Berkeley since there is a shop component to those classes and from what I can tell there is no parallel at any CC. With a 3.6 GPA and no recommended classes complete your boyfriend has a very slim chance of admissions.
@sdjournot Oh okay I see now! I think he took all except Thermodynamics
Any idea on when we should be hearing back if we are expecting Regents? I was admitted into UCSD on Regents, and got my acceptance letter far before other people did. Can i be hoping this to be the same for Berk? Is a April 1st release too far fetched?
@POTUS2040 Berkeley does not send out early admissions. Everyone shall hear back on April 29.
Rule #1: Never expect Regents from Berkeley :))
Ever since I heard back from UCSB, I’ve mainly just wanted the time to fly by so I can be over it. I would kill to attend Berkeley, but at the same time I am completely content at SB. Not to mention, I am tired of checking up on this forum and my applications this often. It sounds cliche, but I am working on a writing project and it is messing with my peace of mind.
On the bright side, I did discover that my tuition fee waiver can be used during the summer at the UCs. For those who don’t know, the summer sessions at CSUs are funding by outside institutions. Tuition waivers cannot be used during the intersession or summer. With the cost of living in Orange County and what will be my rent in which UC city I attend, I cannot afford to pay for summer classes out of pocket, but now I don’t have to feel as though I am wasting time during these summer months.
I am panicking right now. I just got my grades for the winter quarter and I got a C+ in Calculus 1C or Calculus 3 OMG sigh. Would Berkeley rescind the offer after seeing me getting a C+ in Calculus 1C, if I happened to get accepted? I applied as an Econ major. And I believe Berkeley didn’t put Calc 1C as a requirement.
@ayovivian yo calm down
@ayovivian
Yes, they may will cancel your admission even if it is not major requirement / IGETC because the acceptance contract clarified you must get grades better than B in the remaining coursework. There was a couple of people got their admission rescinded in this thread, however, both of them worked really hard and got re-admitted. But you should worry about it after you get accepted.

@ayovivian It is better to call then immediately and ask directly rather than guess and wait. Those who succeed though the appeal process not only have significant struggles, but were always fairly neglected by the certain admissions representatives. You will not succeed in an appeal for not meeting a grade requirement simply because the course/professor was difficult or you might have put too much on your plate.
If it truly is a deal breaker, then it is better to know now than to drag this out over the next few months and waste time that could better be spent evaluate your other options.
Does anyone know where we go to check up on our acceptance? Is it the MAP@BERKELEY page? Or do they just e-mail us? I got accepted to UCSB and never received an e-mail. Is this normal for UC schools?
@heyhey12321 Yes, you will be able to check on your admission status via MAP@Berkeley. From what I’ve read in the past, they’re supposed to email you, but when they do it is typically later or a day after.
Let’s not kid ourselves; we’ll all be letting our eyes run dry and smashing F5 come April 29.
What do we do if we dropped a class?
@uctransfer2016 You need to email them.
If I did a summer session at a 4-year university, would that in any way put my application in jeopardy?
None of it is currently on my application or planned courses, and it wouldn’t be for any required classes. It would be for a few random upper level classes. I currently only have CCC units, zero units from a 4-year school.
@briank82 Are you thinking of doing it this summer, or did you do it a past summer?
I would avoid it, unless you were admitted to Haas, and they explicitly told you it would be okay - and it were at Berkeley (ideally) or another UC. I would wait until decisions come out, and then make a decision about summer classes.
Otherwise, you should be fine, provided it’d be under 10 units, and you don’t fail any of the classes or get a C in them (obviously). One can be rescinded for summer work, but I’m sure you’ll be fine.
Is it worth contacting admissions about awards and honors received this semester? My gut feeling is that admissions wouldn’t care at this point, but I’ve received some honors this semester that I really wish I’d had the opportunity to include on my application.
@billydee What are they? If it’s something like honor roll, or dean’s list, don’t bother. If you cured cancer, or received a Nobel Prize, then definitely do so.
^^ it’s pretty late in the game. It doesn’t hurt to send them things but at this point I would guess it’s unrealistic that it’s even viewed and, if it is, that it is factored much at all.
If it’s a huge award, or if your application was really lacking in that regard, all it can do is help at best, and at worst, be ignored.
Haha, it was for curing cancer–do you think UCB would view that favorably??
The main two were being named the outstanding student for my CC’s math department this year (I was only vaguely aware my school did something like this before my former instructor told me she’d nominated me the other week; I guess each department picks a student every year) and being named to the all-state academic team. (Aside from that, it’s just some regional Phi Theta Kappa awards and, as you mentioned, the dean’s list–I don’t think I mentioned having made the dean’s list a previous time on my application because I feel like that doesn’t add any new information not already reflected in my transcript.) I think I won’t bother contacting them.
Thanks for the advice! Just 25 more nail-biting days…
