@goldencub This is actually my 4th year in community college. Due to some personal issues I would have been ineligible to receive any sort of financial aid until this year. Since I was also working I saw no purpose to finishing everything up only to wait for those particular issues to be resolved. I found it preferable to spread out my courseload in community college.
I didn’t have any AP credit; I was homeschooled.
@forshevchenko Nice! I applied to UCSD, UCLA, UCSB, and of course, Berkeley. I got into UCSB so far, though, that isn’t where I want to go.
Hey any idea how does the financial aid works for somebody who is divorcing?
So when I filed for school and FAFSA I was still married, and my partner’s income was the reason why I never got any financial aid, because I showed our gross income on the application etc. But now we are separated and honestly I’m not sure how I’m going to afford school yet.
@forshevchenko I asked a similar question in the Financial Aid board, and asked if being seperated changes my financial aid and someone said that seperation doesn’t but full-on divorce does mean you have to file separately and indicate that you are divorced and only report your income. If you filed for divorce, you have to wait 6 months, and then report any changes to financial aid at your school.
@Cheolf No wonder you’re able to handle that schedule. I’ll be recharging over the summer.
@goldencub cub but that would mean you would graduated 6 months later though right?
Anyone can think of my chances for UCB with a 3.83 GPA for Neurobiology major
@Philosoup ? Spring admits should graduate in December, as opposed to May - so 7 months I suppose.
I’m actually planning to take an extra semester - so if I enroll in the Fall, I will probably graduate in December of 2018.
If I take 11 units this semester instead of 12 (amount to be counted as full time student) will they frown upon that when looking ay application next year?
^^ it means nothing. 11 is basically 12. If you only took 4 to 5 units, you’d want to explain why your course load is so low, but 11 is fine.
Thank you @briank82 !
I don’t quite remember what it was exactly but taking a minimum of 12 units per semester of CCC attended qualifies you for an additional tier of financial aid if your low income (Household income less than $80k). Admissions-wise, I agree that i doesn’t matter.
Can you defer a fall admission to a spring admission?
@SDGoldenBear So if I won’t qualify if I don’t have 12 units this semester?
So I was browsing summer classes for UCB and saw that applications for their Transfer Edge program open on Friday, April 22nd…hmm I wonder if that is the day we will find out if we’ve been admitted. Up until now I thought it was going to be the 29th.
The site specifically states “Transfer Edge is a specially designed program for those who have been admitted as transfer students to UC Berkeley for the coming fall.”
hmmmmmmmmm… not getting my hopes up though.
@screenname34 I have been wondering this same thing. I recently applied to an internship through the State Department and my name as been submitted as a top candidate. When I hear back this month, which there is a good likelihood of me getting the internship, I would need to defer until Spring as the internship is from September-December.
On the other hand, I think it is a very valid reason to defer, and I am pretty sure most schools require some sort of internship or first hand experience related to your major as a graduation requirement. I am not sure if Berkeley requires this but as a Political Science major with aspirations of joining the foreign service, I can’t think of a better internship opportunity…
@Platosgooch I mean, when you log into MAP@Berkeley it blatantly says:
Your application has been received and is currently under review.
Decisions will be available on April 29, 2016.
I don’t imagine this would be false.
@Grinsley
Yes, that is more likely the correct date. The transfer program might have the date mistaken, but I’m pretty sure you won’t be able to apply for the summer session without a Berkeley ID number. I wonder which webpage was updated last.
