UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread

@bayareaengineer I also go to Diablo valley college. Which strongly recommended courses did you take for mechanical engineering? And what sort of extra curricular activities?

@Hector1201 I think one of the reasons you get waitlisted is because you have pre reqs finished in Spring. May I ask how many prereqs that you are currently in progress? If I were an admission officer, I would prefer someone with a with prereqs completed in Fall (so they have a grade) instead of Spring. But then, this is just my assumption, and I would say don’t lose hope ! Cal is unpredictable as well

A Berkeley admissions officer from my major just viewed my LinkedIn profile…

I got waitlisted for UCLA AGAIN on my BIRTHDAY.
I had 3.90 GPA and all IGETC and major completed by fall.
Oh well, I know they are really strict to internationals and oos, some of my international friends with above 3.95 GPA got waitlisted.
I applied for psych major for UCLA and cognitive science major for Berkeley. I’ll see what happens.

UCLA asked me if I want to opt-in to waitlist, and I checked no >:D< I’ll just go to San Diego or Berkeley.

@blsUCtransfer get out. No way! LOL

@Hiroaki0422 sorry to hear… i also got waitlisted for Computer Science. My overall GPA is 4.0, I am international student from Calif CC and lacking one last physics class of the 13 or so required classes, disappointed since last year a friend with similar situation was admitted. I may opt-in to waitlist just as a back up.
I am accepted at UCSD and UCI, waitlisted for UCD and UCLA, and still wait for UCB. Anyway wish you best of luck…

@Hiroaki0422 @xela007 I am also an international student. I feel like a good number of international students with 4.0 got waitlisted and rejected by UCLA this year. I tried so hard to get a 4.0, but turn out that’s not what I want to see. I hope we can all go to Cal.

The another thing is international students are not qualified for TAP of UCLA , which is a big disadvantage.
But Berkeley does not have TAP ( technically, they do ,but only for low-income and underprivileged people), which makes the admission fairer for us.

This year was truly exceptioanlly competitive unlike last few years.

Major:Biz/Eco
GPA: 3.95
Essays: 9/10
IGETC: done by end of Spring
Accepted: UCI, UCSD
Wait-list: UCLA
Pending: USC and UCB

@Hiroaki0422 what do you mean that Berkeley has their version of tap. Do you have to register for it, or is it determined by application. I got rejected UCLA bus Econ, 3.88 4.0 major, but only concerned about Haas school of business. I’m a minority and come from lower income family. Will that put me at an advantage?

@blsUCtransfer OMG you are kidding!! I would be freaking out if a UCB advisor for my major viewed my LinkedIn page. Good luck! I feel like that’s a VERY good sign!

@wtb2525
I don’t know much about Berkeley TAP because I’m not eligible for it.
There are some TAP students in this thread and they maybe elaborate it for you.

TAP seems to always leave Central California out of its program, though. There’s a whole section of missed opportunity there.

@wtb2525 UCB’s TAP is way different than other schools. More or less, you have someone help you through the entire application process. You have someone who personally helps you, you have access to workshops, etc etc etc. You’re not really given preference and you’re certainly not given anything guaranteed, but they say their success rate is 85% … but I would think it’s nowhere near that in competitive majors.

The program is only for underrepresented groups … re-entry, minorities, first generation students, veterans, etc.

That’s all a moot point I suppose because you had to sign up for it like a year ago or something.

Major: Mechanical Engineering
GPA: 3.8
Accepted CSU Long Beach, CSU Fullerton, CSU Los Angeles
Rejected: UCLA, UC San Diego
Waiting on: UC Berkeley

Hopefully I get in this time. When I applied in high school I got similar results (accepted to the 3 CSUs, rejected from the 3 UCs). Coming from a huge legacy family for Berkeley. Praying and hoping I change the results

anyone know about ucb regents process?

@blsUCtransfer How does he know your LinkedIn acc? Did you mention it on your app?

Nope, just by name probaby ^

Does anyone know how Berkeley “presents” their decisions on their portal? Is it like UCLA where it just pops up or do you have to click a link within the portal to find out?

I am asking because my friend is super anxious and wants to be as prepared as possible before going into his portal this coming Friday.
