I have a few friends who are cs majors at cal and they all say 61 a/b/c are brutal. I think what you’re forgetting is that those 38-43% who fail to earn a b+ are all cal students and are usually intelligent and exceptionally hard working.
I’m so nervous. Wondering what my transferable GPA is for Berkeley. My cumulative is 3.14 but after getting accepted into UC Davis, they show how they calculated your transcript and they had me at a 3.44. I got rejected by UCLA, waitlisted by UCSD, and got into the rest.
Berkeley’s been my main goal for awhile now, and I hope they are generous with the credit evaluation so I have a higher GPA
where do you find how Davis calculated your GPA at? @hdoan24
Interested as well. None of the other UCe calculated my GPA, from what I saw. I was accepted to UCD as well but haven’t logged in to check it out.
Curious how UCB calculates mine since I have classes for several CCs, including 2 OOS.
@hdoan24 Maybe you were looking at your community college’s cumulative while UC Davis was showing their UC Gpa? UC GPA vs Cumulative
@xela007 It’s actually 61A, 61B and 70 that are required to petition (3.3 GPA min), unless I’m looking at outdated info; they only accept Cal courses for the GPA calculation.
No amount of positive thinking can mitigate the concerns raised by that min GPA. Whatever stats you present are trivial – it’s still a major concern. I don’t want to play games and I surely don’t want to kill myself over an undergrad degree, trying to prove that I’m good enough for Cal CS.
@sdjournot oh man that sucks! I’m sorry about that! But I dont think they’re going to show that in this episode! Probably mid season! So you’ll have it by then!
@TransferJ Log onto the UC Davis portal, and on the right hand side it says “view course credit summary”. I went to a four year oos and bombed my freshman year there before returning back to CC. They profile your application off of the UC transferable GPA I believe, not your cumulative.
Wow. Just checked my “Summary of Estimated Transferable Units” from my UC Davis acceptance into Managerial Economics. Says my GPA is a 3.56. I see that it lists one class that Assist says is transferable as as non-transferable, but everything else mostly looks correct.
I think it’s looking at three C-'s I received ten years ago and not taking into consideration that I retook those classes this passed year and got A’s in them. I indicated on my application that I was replacing those failing grades with my new grades. I don’t think they only take the first attempt’s grade, especially on classes no way relevant to my major.
Hopefully Berkeley looks at my application different. My GPA should be 3.8+.
@briank82
The webinar said only Haas calculate grades of first attempt of repeated classes, but l&s only consider grade of after-repeat.
What was your major you applied with ?
@briank82 You cannot retake any C’s because they are considered a passing grade, you’re only allowed to retake F’s and D’s. So although you “retook” and passed with A’s they still are going to factor in those C’s in your GPA.
I’m starting to feel the anxiety of approaching decisions. Darn you @goldencub for getting me thinking about it! :))
@hdoan24 a C- is (or can be) failing though, a C isn’t. The grade point of a C- is 1.8-1.5 at the school I attended and received C-'s.
@Hiroaki0422 For all classes? I knew they did that with major pre-reqs, wasn’t aware it was applied to all classes.
These courses are 10 years old so I’m really not too worried, because my recent and more relevant grades are great, I just wasn’t a fan of that 3.5 GPA. I was told by an admissions advisor at Haas that these grades from 10 years ago won’t matter very much, so hopefully that holds true.
the anxiety is real
@briank82
You’re in the same boat as me when it comes to dropped GPA by Davis. One of my history courses isn’t transferable at UC Davis so they dropped my GPA from 3.8 to 3.79. UCLA does and tbh I should be considering it or UCB (if they take me) rather than UC Pepper Spray in the Face.
Every few minutes I remember that we’re so close … yet it feels so far away! I am pretty sure I am annoying EVERYONE around me. I can’t help it! This ish is life changing!
Whoa they paid good money to keep that under wraps so hush you! lol
@selimpride Yeah, it’s weird. UC Transferable is UC Transferable. It shouldn’t matter if you’re trying to get it evaluated at UCD or UCLA, as the course has been approved for UC Transferability.
I double checked the transferability of Assist for the class UCD said wasn’t transferable, and it said it was … even for UCD. Must be a weird error, or something.
@briank82 doesn’t matter.
At the bottom of the page where you see UC Transferable, it says it is non negotiable.
