UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread

@iccricri When I messaged Berkely sometime back about dropping a course not needed for my major they told me that it would not affect my chances. Given that it’s more than likely not required for your major, you’re fine.

Is doing the waitlist even worth it?

Anyone know how I can find out if I’ve been accepted to UC Berkeley EOP program?

Anybody know when we can check our financial aid package??

Anyone else going to need to take out an obscene amount of loans to pay for this school? :expressionless: Oh well it’s worth it.

@bolognese it’s Berkeley so i would say its worth it. plus that way ill know another history major at ucb!!

@yy

thats if I even make it in after the waitlist!! Ah well, I’ll sign up for the wait and SIR to Davis

congrats btw!

@bolognese
Thannks!!

Thank you GOD, I am accepted

Major: CS Letter and Science
GPA: 4.0
Prerequisites: done (all that are offered at my cc)
IGETC: Complete by the end of the Spring.
Extracurriculars: some in high school, part time job and some volunteer work in CC (not much after high school)
Essays: 8/10. IDK hard to tell
International student at California CC
Applied: UC Berkeley, UCI TAG, UCLA, UCSD, UCD
Accepted: UC Berkeley, UCI, UCSD
Waitlisted : UCLA (lacking one prerequisite - the last physics class series)
UCD (lacking one or two prereq - not sure since ASSIST is not so clear on UCD )

I am so thankful and happy.
I know there are many of you who deserve to be accepted with your perfect / high GPA and all, but somehow got rejected. I can imagine the feeling. Try to appeal if it is possible. But anyway life goes on and good education is not only at UCB. Good luck and wish you all the best. I know it’s easily said than done, but realize that our life are what we make of it, and how we use our education to achieve it, not solely determined by what Univ we are admitted into. My prayer and best wishes to all of you.

@solostish Yeah you should definitely challenge it. I got accepted into Political Science with a GPA that’s quite a bit lower. Good luck!!

@Rololo thanks! im really worried that after all my hard work that a PE class out of all things would ruin everything

Hi everyone! I got rejected from Cal.

Major: English
GPA: 3.9
Pre-reqs: Completed but 2
IGETC: Completed
EC: a handful including an honors program + various honor societies
Out of state cc student

I incorrectly stated on my UC Application that I did not meet the minimum transfer units required when in fact, I do. Should I appeal? I feel that as soon as they saw that, I was rejected. Anyone have any thoughts?

@billydee I really want to know that too. I would like to drop a class that I only did for UCLA, which I was waitlisted to… What did the automated response say that came from Cal? Also congrats! Maybe I’ll see you next sem. I’m a math major too.

@Pinkponylife who were u referring to?

@billydee I also dropped a class and i am really concerned that my acceptance will get revoked over a stupid PE class thats only worth 0.5 units

@chaspion323 Haha, mine was also only taken for UCLA (my second choice). I had the word “withdrawal” in my subject line, so the response was mostly instructions on how to withdraw my application if I needed to. I don’t blame them for not sending a real response; admissions must have been completely swamped. Anyway, I just submitted the transfer update form explaining my situation and offering to complete the course in the summer if necessary.

I would contact them to see if your drop would be OK; good luck!! And congrats on your admission, too; hope to see you at Berkeley!

Edit: Ooops nvm

@goldencub Congrats! You definitely deserve it!!

Ok, here goes to help future transfers out: (will also post this in decision thread)

Major: Econ
ASSIST GPA(UC-Transferable): 3.81
Overall GPA: 3.85
Major GPA: 4.0
IGETC: Done
Pre-reqs: Calc II in progress, completed by end of Spring

ECs: Youtube content creator since I was 14 years old (2008) that has amassed 50,000 subscribers and 40 million video views. I also own a website with 100k users, where I have clients including Red Bull, Office Max, etc. I worked as a social media marketing executive full time (took gap year) for a software company in the Bay area (CEO found my videos on Youtube and sent me a job offer when I was attending CCC so I took the gap year and was blessed for the opportunity).

Additional Info: First gen college student, upward A trend for two years.
Weakness: Workload only Calc I and Calc II in Fall/Spring. I took a 20 unit semester and pulled off a 4.0 so they probably saw that I can handle a full time schedule. When I took the full time job position English 1B grade slipped(got a C). Also, at CCC since 2012 but I did take ~1 year for work.

Applied: UCB, UCLA, UCD, UCSD, UCSB
TAG to: UCD
Accepted: All but UCLA
Attending: UCB!!

Honestly, a bit surprised because I thought GPA would just kill my application. I was confident, but because how competitive Berkeley is, it could have gone either way… so this just goes to show for you future (econ) transfer applicants that GPA is not everything(although important) and Berkeley definitely DOES pride itself on “holistic admissions”.

Look forward to seeing all of you soon! And GOO BEARSS!!! Ok… now to go buy some gear for my family!

P.S: If you are a future transfer and need any advice/help… don’t hesitate to send me a PM on here!

CONGRATS @goldencub!!! You’ve been so helpful to everyone on this thread and you’ve worked extremely hard. Well deserved!

Thank you, from all of us!
