UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread

@Grinsley - Re: #2- The next step for you to take is formal acceptance of our admission offer. Let us know your decision by June 1st, 2016… that is from CalCentral and re: #1- no didn’t get a form as such… and #3- have no clue

On Sunday, May 1, between 5:30am and 10:30am PDT, an upgrade to UC Berkeley Student Information Systems (SIS) is planned. During this time, we expect delays and outages in CalCentral and related services such as student profile and class enrollment.

Newly Admitted Students: The deadline to submit your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) has been extended to Monday, 5/2/2016, at 11:59pm PDT.

So is it May 2nd or June 1st lmao

@Grinsley

@tooweirdyo

Glad to see a fellow poli sci major admitted to LA and Berk. I’m super conflicted between two. Do you have any information on which is better for Poli Sci major? Have you already decided where you’re going?

unable to create cal-net id… :frowning: it says forbidden? Have i done something wrong?? I have accepted and SIR’ed!!

@POTUS2040 hey there, I am also a poli sci major who was admitted to both. I have my mind almost entirely made up that I will attend Cal, I just need to call and figure out some stuff regarding an internship I was offered.
Being that I’ve lived my whole life super close to LA, I see myself fitting in much better at Cal. For example, I could see myself traveling to SF during my downtime while I don’t necessarily see myself traveling to Hollywood to hang out.
Cal consistently ranks more highly than UCLA, which is also a motivating factor for me.
I have not toured either school and would like to do so before making my decision but I might just go into it blind.

@POTUS2040 also, I am not sure how I feel about switching to the quarter system. My friend at Davis hates it and that’s also why Cal stands out to me. I wish I knew more about which had a better program but I think either place will give you a world class education.

Major: Material Science and Engineering
GPA: 3.70 (Major: 3.78)
Honor Program (which ruined my GPA from 3.88 hypothetically)
EC: Research Experience in SCCUR and HTCC
IGETC: completed
Pre: Done, following UCLA and Cal
Applied: Cal, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, UCI
Admitted: Cal, UCLA, UCSD, UCI
Rejected: UCSB (they have 4 more pre-reqs)
Good luck!

For those asking about not having to pay the $100 SIR fee when they SIR’d, I believe I read that if that was the case for yo that means it was waived to a later date for you to pay. You are still required to pay the fee.

@iamthetopgun I know exactly what you mean! It’s like you’re reading my mind or something. Haha. Tbh, both are great. I don’t think you can go wrong with either. I’m from NorCal, so that’s influencing my decision. But I still need to visit UCLA to get a feel for the school. Have you visited both campuses? You said you’re not from SoCal originally, so are you an international student or something? Btw, don’t think it sounds bad cause I get what you’re saying! Lol.

@caliguy925 You should have the 2017 Berkeley thread in the UC Transfers forum. You may be able to move the one you already made here - but I don’t know how you would go about that.

@MikeSauce Is Haas your #1 choice, or you still going to to pursue the other options you were looking at?

All applicants that have received invitations any Transfer Welcome events, (Fly to Berkeley, Bridges Transfer Weekend, etc.) should strongly committing ASAP. The allocations for this year are less than past years and spots are very limited.

Unfortunately, with the lack of financial resources, not all invitees will get confirmation of accommodations. Reservations are dealt with as a first come first serve so committing early will increase your chances.

@jonuni94,

Yes although I’m I’m pretty much done with my Econ reqs and am now working on my second major and grad school prep.

You guys have some good profs teaching the core classes in the Fall–much better than when I had to take my mines…I’m very jealous. Adam Lucas (Stat 20) is an amazing(!) lecturer and both Shobana Stoyanov (Stat 20/21) and Calanit Kamala (Econ 100A) care about their undergrad students and have the bonus of being accommodating graders. Gaubert (101A) is relatively harder but she will prepare you well for grad school and while Wood (100B) is dry and more lenient at grading. Lastly Schoefer (101B) is freshly recruited from Harvard, but is considered a rising star in the field and comes recommended by the Econ “gods” of Olney and Romers. I think the only downside to the Fall options is that 101A and 101B are offered at the exact same time.

Sign up for the earliest CalSO so you keep your options open with the Econ courses!

How do we create a CalNet ID? I’m trying to get a jump on applying for family housing.

https://net-auth.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/krbcpw?NewStudent

I’ve ended up here. Which suggests I go to Admissions (the MAP portal), but I see nothing in there.

I also SIR’d, but there was nowhere to pay the deposit.

Finally found my student ID and used to to try and create a CalNet ID but it said my ID wasn’t found.

It’s really confusing with Cal Central, CalNet, and MAP.

Oh, on another note. I went to the Greek Theater last night for a concert. Made a big production out of it coming down from Napa and my brother and his wife from SF. Got there and nobody was there. Ugh. The concert is TONIGHT lol. Took the opportunity to walk over the Haas, check things out, and left. Back to Berkeley tonight…

how does the regents process work?

Hi guys, I dunno where to choose between UCLA and Cal.
I got into both as a communications / media studies major…
Which one should I go for…?

@briank82 Its my #2, still waiting on one long shot that Ill hear back from towards the end of May. The other schools I applied to were more of a backup stab in the dark :)>-

@SDGoldenBear OMG! Thank you for sharing all of that information! Just curious, what’s your second major? Will be you taking 5 semesters to finish, or will you be able to complete everything in just 4? Thank you again! (:

Hey guys. For everyone who is going to CAL and is not living on campus, we should look for a place together. I live in OC, so honestly doing it bymyself will be almost impossible:)

I’m a female, 24yo (almost 25), clean, outgoing, a lot of fun, but very hard working.
