@screenname34 Have you received information about Transfer Edge in your CalCentral portal?
Yeah CalSO straight up sucks. Your paying a bunch of money for a 6$ meal, a peer motivational speaker that would otherwise talk to you for free, and UC Berkeley chant lessons…IMHO the only reason to go is for the relatively early registration date if your in an impacted major or trying to get one of the hard to get classes.
The fall semester begins on the 19th for the purposes of financial aid, residency contracts, and class registration lockouts but the first day of actual classes is the 26th. I think the biggest concern about the 19th is that you can only freely add courses until the 18th and starting on the 19th you will need instructor approval to add a course even it has open spots.
Sounds easy right? I only wish it was so.
Did you take all your prerequisite at a CCC? If so you need to take either Math 54 or Math 110 as well as Stats 134.

Additionally the GPA requirements are of a concern with what looks to be a hefty load for a first semester. You would need a B+ in Math 54 or a B in Math 110 along with no less than a B average between the Econ course and Stats 134. Note that Stats 134 and Math 110 are a significant jump in difficulty compared to any CCC course and new transfers historically average out to a C grade.
I’d be very concerned with not meeting the Stat GPA requirements while chasing the Econ requirements. I’d also specifically avoid Givental (H110) and Pitters (134) if you can.
The enrollment logistics is another issue as most of those required courses are in very high demand and are normally filled during Phase I registration. Your playing with probabilities as there is no combination that will guarantee you all the classes you need. Additionally there is a significant time conflict between 101A, 101B, and one of the Stats 134 sections.
@briank82 when did you submit your SIR? My husband did his yesterday, in the tasks this morning there was an option to make a calnet ID and a couple hours later a new task to apply for housing (family included). So I think it takes the system a couple hours to recognize once you’ve SIR’d.
We also didn’t have the option to pay for the SIR fee. I think that it’s waived for qualifying students (ie poor student-parents lol)
Does anybody know if berkeley will cancel you admissions if you get a W for one of your classes this semester? I was accepted but now im worried that they’ll revoke my acceptance since i got a W
@iccricri Report it immediately on your Transfer Undergraduate Admissions Update Form located in MAP@Berkeley. They are less likely to rescind if you are upfront with them
@Sanla124 are you guys planning on living in the UC village? I assume you have a kid because of your profile picture… I lived there for the first 10 years of my life while my parents were in grad school. Very solid place to grow up, you have to go to lama beans if you end up there they have fantastic breakfast food!
@SDGoldenBear Cool, I’ll be applying for CalSO as soon as I’m able to create the CalNet ID. Also, I’ll definitely join a club or two that will hopefully open up my “econ/poli-econ/haas bubble” haha
Good luck on your finals!!
@jonuni94 I hear those Haas guys are super hip and trendy
@screenname34 lol yup, we’ve got three of them. I’m looking forward to it. I’ve heard a lot of good things about UC village.
@hitherto yes i will definitely do that. But im really woried. Do u think they would recind there offer? Have they been known to do that?
I dropped a class on March 6th. I updated my TAU on March 6th, and I saw that UCSB read my application after March 6th so I assume that all the other UCs also did the same. But it says on MAP that it may not be a guarantee that any update on the TAU made after January 31st would be considered for the admission decision. Should I contact a Cal admissions officer?
@SDGoldenBear Yes, I have done Math 54 as a prereq for my Stats acceptance. All I would need is Stat 134 and Econ 100/101A in that case. I definitely wouldn’t gamble my spot in stat 134 for an econ course, but I plan on doing my applied cluster in economics anyway. I am gonna need to take econ 101 at some point in order to get my stats applied cluster underway. If I can get it in the first semester, why shouldn’t I go ahead and apply to econ major?
I understand that 100A is probably very hard to get into, but since 101 requires Linear Algebra, I’m assuming I have a small chance to sneak into it because I’ve done math 54 at my CC. Any logical flaws here? I’m definitely not getting my hopes up, just making sure I know what to look for.
Recap: I have done Math 54 at CC. I am a Stats major looking to do my applied cluster in econ. If I can get into Econ 101A my first semester, along with stat 134 (which i would take anyway), and the American Cultures req., then I plan to apply into the econ major.
@BigPanda I haven’t SIR’d yet for the same reason as @screenname34
Are we able to register for classes? please guide me!!
@iccricri Honestly, no one here can tell you your chances of getting rescinded. But Cal is known to be strict. I wouldn’t worry if the course isn’t significant to your major.
@ECEhopeful253 I applied to EECS, but I didn’t get in. Did you get in?
@naregian, I think you overlooked what I was referring to with Math 54/Math 110:
So if you choose to Phase I Stats 134 and Econ 101, then Math 54 / Math 110 will go to the backburner for Phase II and you risk getting Givental for Math 110 or not getting Math 54 altogether.
That said your correct. 101A is the easier course to attempt to enroll over 100A. 101B even more so because straight Econ majors are recommended to take the A series before the B series meaning you will have less competition for spots in the class.
So from your goals your 1st semester would be: Math 54 or Math 110, Stats 134, and Econ 101A/B which ranges from manageable to Sujit Choudhry (lol!) depending on the professors.
@BigPanda I submitted an update in the portal and am waiting to hear back before submitting my SIR
@Sanla124 Ah, that might be it. The system just might need 24 hours or something. I SIR’d this morning.
Have you heard much about family housing, or how tough it is to get?
Rejected…
