UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread

@BladeX maybe you can call admission and find out. Then based on their answer you can proceed to appeal/ or not to appeal. Possibility: OOS CC ? (maybe courses do not match with requirements ?)

@xela007 thank you a lot. Coz i was so upset and I think I have done all that I could… If it is becoz OOS then I have no control abt it. thats what we call Fate…;( btw, is calling really useful tho? Anyone tried?

@BladeX There seems to be this mindset amongst us transfers that somehow with a 4.0, pre reqs and some EC involvement people have a guarantee of admission. I’m not saying you aren’t an excellent applicant, but often those things only get your proverbial ball entered into the lottery that is admission to top schools. Sometimes it just doesn’t go your way and there’s no obvious rhyme or reason behind it. If there were conditions that could guarantee an admission then there would be a program for guaranteed admission, but there isn’t. The fact that there is no guarantee means that some fantastic applicants (such as yourself) will fall into the margin of rejected students despite your excellent qualifications. Usually the appeal process is not in place to try to reverse a decision you don’t agree with, it’s there to reverse a decision in light of new information the committee didn’t have when initially making its decision. You’re an excellent applicant and just as qualified, and often more qualified, than every admitted student I’ve seen on this thread, but chance is a bitch. Don’t worry about it and go to any of the other fantastic schools I’m sure you were accepted to!

@Cheolf @BigPanda Actually the 2016 fall semester begins August 17 with instruction beginning August 24. Y’all are looking at the fall semester of 2015.

@SDGoldenBear I really don’t mean to be a nudge, or annoying but I’m just trying to get this straight. Why would I even need math 54/110 my first semester? Couldn’t this be done second semester just as well.

And I’m assuming you’re referring to the fact that any transfer with all 4 of the pre-reqs completed, must still duplicate linear algebra at Berkeley. I wonder why it’s like that. Kind of a dumb rule I guess.

Man I just looked at some of the classes I’m interested in for fall 2016-and they already have a bunch of people enrolled in them! I can’t go to CalSO so I hope I’m able to meet with an advisor soon and start adding classes, if I wait till after it seems like I won’t be able to get into a lot of them.

Major: Economics
GPA: 3.90 when I applied
Major GPA: 4.0
IGETC: done by spring
Prereqs: done by spring
EC’s: 7/10
Personal Statement: 9/10
TAG: N/A

Applied: UCD, UCI, UCLA, UCB
Admitted: UCI, UCD, UCB
Waitlisted: None
Rejected: UCLA

I can’t believe it!!! because I am an international student and Economics major is very competitive to get into Cal.

How do we check our financial aid?

I won’t be able to attend CalSO either, and the classes I want/need are already filling up…

Also, how do we create a Cal ID? I think I had one from the Summer class I was enrolled in, but I think it’s pretty likely that they’ll require a new one.

@goldencub I was able to finally create my CalNet ID. It needed 24 hours from when you SIR’d to when you could create it, I think.

It popped up in my “Future Tasks” on CalCentral and I just followed the prompts.

I don’t think I’m going to CalSO either. Admittedly I haven’t looked into it much but I just have way too much going on at the moment.

@goldencub once you SIR you will be giventhe optionto create a CalNet ID. I believe this system is down until 10:30 am today for maintence, after that you should be able to. The only thing is once you create it, it will take some time to activate. I am experiencing that now.

@briank82 @accessforbidden I see the option now - but when I click on that link (asking me to follow the necessary steps), it didn’t prompt me to sign up for anything. It also listed two of my past CalNet IDs, and neither of them are usable, for whatetver reason. So I have no idea. I guess I’ll have to email them.

@goldencub When you go to the page where it list your ID’s there should be an option to change your ID, I had a similar problem, but when I changed my ID I was finally able to set up my email

@goldencub
and the classes I want/need are already filling up…

What do you mean by this. Should I worry? Will transfer students get screwed over?

By the way when can people sign up for it? Can they already do so now?

@selimpride I believe you have to meet with your college advisor first because they give you permission to enroll in classes, hence the CalSO event.

@MikeSauce Great - I changed my CalNet ID, but now this pops up when I try to create a BConnected account: “You are not currently eligible for a CalMail account.” Maybe I’ll try again in an hour or so.

@accessforbidden
I meant for CalSO, my bad. Should have been clearer

@goldencub If you figure out how to create a bConnected account could you inform me please? I keep getting: “This account cannot be accessed because we could not parse the login request” when I try to connect.

@accessforbidden That happens to me too. How did you get it to work, @MikeSauce ?
