@accessforbidden Out of curiosity, why do you want to switch to Legal Studies?
@TransferJ on the previous page I said how to create your bMail.
@goldencub I don’t really have an interest in Poli Sci anymore. When I started at my CC I thought since I wanted to go to law school it would make sense to major in poli sci (dumb, i know). I didn’t know Cal had a legal studies major till about a month and a half ago. I did some research on the major and realized the curriculum is something I’m more interested in.
Anyone else out there struggling between SIRing to UCLA or Berk? God this is gonna be the hardest decision of my life…
@themightybicycle I think once you visit both schools, and do research on how your major is at both campuses the decision should be clear.
@themightybicycle I’m having the same issue! UCLA is my dream school, but there’s also so much to love about Berkeley. I’m a SoCal resident, so I’ve been around UCLA a lot and haven’t had a chance to get a feel for Berkeley yet. Are you planning on going to any of the transfer events?
@SDGoldenBear Thanks for answering my question! If I’m sure I don’t want to major in art history would I be required to take classes for it in the fall? I’d rather take all of my reqs for English
Is anyone having trouble creating a cal net id and email? I already did my SIR
@SDGoldenBear thanks for answering my question. If I cannot attend CalSO when can I take my photo for my Cal 1 card?
@TransferJ it takes about 24 hrs for your SIR to update before you can create a CalNet ID.
Okay, important question. How do I even know what classes I need?
^ I have similar questions about knowing what classes I need and also, how do I sign up for classes/when is it available?
Where/ how can we register for classes?
Also anyone know anything about EOP?
PLEASE ADVISE AND GUIDE!!!
much appreciated
For all of you who got a fin aid, just wanted to tell you how much you need to appreciate it I’m getting a federal loan of 12000 and then had to apply for a private Discover student loan of 20 000 for 15 years. I will owe like 60 000 XD
any rich husbands around here? jk
does anyone know if we are allowed to take summer courses at our community college before starting at Berkeley?
@SDGoldenBear thank you, I really appreciate it!!
@melon12312 @screenname34 @emily2636 @ccAndronicus @KoLo113 The conditions of admission page is fixed!!
@ccAndronicus YAY! Thanks for the heads up! Really appreciate it!
Anyone know how to set up the UC Berkeley email?
@ccAndronicus What did your condition change too? Mine still says ‘I understand that I must complete all UC transferable courses that were self-reported in my application with a minimum term and overall 3.0 GPA, and no grade lower than a C for any individual course.’.
You wouldn’t be “required” to take them but you are strongly recommended to take at least one alternate prerequisite if your not committed to a major. Cal has a fairly strict 4-5 term limit for transfers so you can’t afford to burn a whole semester for a major your not pre-admitted or declared in.
You also usually need to show some sort of “academic progress” for most special considerations with the administration and for your student file will only have your admitted major to reference your progress from.
You actually take your own head-shot and submit your Cal1 Card photo through your portal. (Typical passport photo: head and shoulders, no glasses, no glare, solid-light colored background) They will approve it and print it out at the Cal 1 office on campus from there. If your not attending CalSO, I believe you can pick up your Cal1Card anytime after June 27th (?).
If you are living on-campus, I also recommended getting your Cal 1 card at least 48 hours prior to your move-in to ensure that it will work to access any possible electronic doors you might need to clear.
You’ll be briefed during CalSO but it’s fairly straight forward for transfers admitted into Pre-Econ: https://www.econ.berkeley.edu/undergrad/prospective/transfer-students
A standard first semester Econ transfer schedule is either Econ 100A or 101A, either Stats 20 or 21, a prerequisite for an alternate major, and a random DeCAL to fill out the 13 unit minimum.
The usual suspects for the alternate prerequisites are IAS 45 (Poli-Econ), UGBA 10 (ORMS), Stats 134 (Stats with an Econ concentration), Math 110 (Applied Math with Econ concentration), LS 100 (Legal Studies), and PS 112 (Poli Sci).
This page seems to have most of the information: http://polisci.berkeley.edu/undergraduate-program/requirements-major. You can also attempt to access the DARs report webpage (https://darsweb.berkeley.edu/) which will highlight what you need to take towards graduation.
You register for classes on CalCentral after completing your orientation (at CalSO or otherwise).
EOP should be automatic via your CalCentral portal. If you not identified on CalCentral and you feel you should qualify, you need to apply here: https://docs.google.com/a/berkeley.edu/forms/d/12xx8xgGXkyEh-vF0xI_SEKKxgNBjwgffBSZxm1va7pc/viewform?usp=send_form
If manually applying, I suggest doing so ASAP as the verification can take some time to process and waiting might lead to you not getting all the benefits that you would be eligible for.
You are NOT allowed to take courses over summer unless you notify your admissions counselor AND get prior approval. It should be outlined in your conditions of admission which should also have the contact information of your primary admissions officer.
