YES! you guys, in order to sign up for valid net you HAVE to submit your SIR first and then give it 24 hours.
Also, those of you attending Calso, are you guys going alone? I’m nervous

@arashid142 thank you!!! I’m having that same issue and was freaking out but it hasn’t been a full day yet, lol. Thanks again!
Does anyone know of an up to date thread on CC that talks about housing at Cal?
For those who are going to Calso are you going by car? plane? train?
@chaspion323 To clear things up for everyone else who has questions:
CalSO is not mandatory; however, one of the perks of attending CalSO is that students are allowed to enroll in 10.5 of their fall semester credits ahead of time. During the second phase, they will be allowed to add however many more that they have planned for the fall.
Neither of my majors are impacted, nor do they have sequence courses. As long as I am taking two polisci and rhetoric courses in the fall, it truly does not matter what I am taking. This is the reason why paying that fee and potentially falling asleep at the wheel to attend CalSO would not be worth it for me personally. The case for my majors will not necessarily be the case for many other majors. If you are in STEM or Business, CalSO might as well be mandatory. So, I just wanted to clear that up.
On another note, stop selling yourselves short!
There are hundreds to thousands of students graduating with honors from UCB every single year. If you walk onto campus having already convinced yourself that your GPA is going to deflate to nothing, then of course you are not going to perform well. So much of high education work is partially dependent on confidence. You are going to have things thrown at you that you have never seen before, but you have to have enough faith in yourself to believe that you will find a way to work through it. You have to be confident in your beliefs if you are going to write good papers. You have to be confident in your knowledge if you are not going to walk out of finals week without stomach ulcers and anxiety attacks.
The people that you see succeeding in these environments are no less people than you. You might have to work harder at Berkeley than at certain other schools, but that will only teach you to work your absolute hardest regardless of where you are.
@TheVisionary Well put. The threshold for Distinction (equivalent to cum laude) in L&S is 3.724, I believe - I’m shooting for that, personally.
Another question I’m hoping to get answered: For those who receive financial aid, in your awards from Cal did you receive the Cal grant award? For all the schools I applied to I received a Cal grant award, but for Berkeley I don’t see that award in my financial award offer. Does anyone know if they include that in any other scholarships they offer?
@Philosoup I’m flying there for 3 days.
@SDGoldenBear are you a berkeley student? My boyfriend works for Cal housing and he said transfers are guaranteed housing. You just have to put a specific thing when you apply for one of your location options. They just had a meeting today about it.
@ivy2018 lol well definitely need to meet up once we’re there! Has your husband thought of continuing at one of the CCs near Berkeley? Thats what im doing.
We haven’t submitted the verification yet, my husband sent an email to clarify what they’re looking for. I’m not sure if the 2015 tax returns is enough or if they want the transcrips, also I don’t know of we need two forms of “custodial proof” for each child, or if we only need one since we did the FAFSA not the California form they mentioned.
I’ve also heard great things about Oceanview, my oldest is 7 so she’ll be going into 2nd grade. And I also have a (almost) 4 year old, and a 2 year old.
@katastrophic Can you ask your boyfriend what’s the best way for a married (with no children) student to get family housing?
Definitely not guaranteed for family housing, because it’s limited.
I am. I would have your boyfriend re-check with his superiors as Housing officially stopped offering “guarantees” two years ago. This year even the freshmen admits were not guaranteed on-campus housing.
I remember this distinctly because we were under the assumption of “guaranteed” on-campus my year (and last year) as well if you chose your last choice slot as “any/all”, but Housing had to renege on that when they saw that they didn’t have enough spots. If you look back at the threads of previous years and the housing [f]acebook groups, you can see how much of a big fuss it caused.
I also know for a fact that Housing told EOP that transfers are “prioritized but not guaranteed” in a departmental meeting this morning.
One thing that may change is that housing is offering options this year at Mills and Holy Cross Colleges which might be enough to solve their shortage but, if this is indeed their solution, then its a weak cop out for guaranteed “on-campus” housing.
Does anyone know what we do for the Immunization and TB tasks in CalCentral? The link says it’ll take you to a form or questionnaire, however, just takes you to a general site: https://uhs.berkeley.edu/requirements/
@jonuni94 I’m just going to wait

@forshevchenko what area are you flying form? I’m in southern california.
