UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread

Thank you @Sanla124

Do you all think it would be worth it to go to the welcoming reception this Saturday?

Thanks @jonuni94

@Polemic As a fellow Political Science major, I would not. Political Science courses are not sequential. Political Science 3 is the only course that we all have to take in the major. Aside from that there is no such thing as not getting into a course that we need so much as a course that we individually want. I would enjoy Europe.

For @tada77 and everyone else who cares, you can look up the courses that you plan to take in the fall, see how many sections are being offered, and how many seats are available at any given time.

Anyone else trying to sign up for housing and getting an “invalid cell phone” error?

@jonuni94 the immunizations and TB questionnaire links are fixed now. I was able to do it.

@TheVisionary So what would a first semester look like for a Poli Sci major? The website says that if you don’t declare your major by the last declaration session (May 13th) you will be unable to enroll in upper-division courses for the Fall semester. If I’ve already met all requirements to declare Poli Sci, what would I take?

@naregian Yes, I was getting that. The format you have to put your number in is: xxx-xxx-xxxx with the X’s being your number.

Bridges is flying me to Berkeley this weekend! anyone else going?

what’s bridges?

Bridges MRC is an on-campus organization that works mostly with recruiting and outreach for low income and/or underrepresented students: http://www.bridgesberkeley.org/

They sponsor multiple programs that fly / bus and house select admits to Berkeley for a weekend so that experience the campus and make a (more) educated decision on where to go.

@Polemic

You are only locked out of upper divisions during Phase I. Poli Sci opens up to all students during Phase II, and while you might not get your first choice options, a lot of Poli Sci courses aren’t popular enough to be completely full so you’ll get something.

Are you able to attend either the declaration session on the 6th or 13th?

Regardless, I agree with @TheVisionary and that you should enjoy Europe.

@goldencub

I found it enjoyable.

The welcome reception is a fairly long series of powerpoint slides followed by a couple of student motivational speakers and some free goodies. ( I remember getting a knapsack, some tacky “Golden Bear Admit” sunglasses that I (regretfully) wore for a while, a handful of different buttons, and A LOT of note pads–which I wish I had some more of)

There is also an information fair afterwards that is a great source of direct information if you have any questions to ask. They will have a representative from all the major departments: Admissions, L&S advising, Fin-aid, Housing, Transfer Edge, etc.

@Polemic Phase II is a free-for-all.

"Q: Will declaring the Poli Sci major help me enroll in Poli Sci classes?
A: Yes!! During Phase I, all upper-division PoliSci courses are restricted to declared PoliSci majors. In Phase II, the restrictions are lifted and anyone may enroll, as space permits.

Q: I am not a declared PoliSci major. What’s the best way to enroll in an upper division PoliSci course that I need to complete my major?
A: While it’s true that you won’t be able to directly enroll in upper division PoliSci courses in Phase I unless you are declared in the major, you are welcomed to wait list for upper division PoliSci courses in Phase I. The department attempts to enroll as many students off the wait list as possible before Phase II begins, as space permits."

@ivy2018 I’ll be there!

anyone going to the berkeley student reception on may 11th in OC?

@SDGoldenBear @TheVisionary Ok, thanks so much for the help, looks like I won’t worry about CalSO. That being said, is it recommended that I go next week to the last declaration session on May 13th? I live in LA so it’s slightly inconvenient, but I would try to make it possible if it is highly beneficial.

Also, is there a calendar or schedule somewhere where I can see the dates for Phase I and Phase II? I can’t find dates anywhere.

@accessforbidden Cool! Where will you be flying from?

@themightybicycle there’s an 80% chance I will be there.
BTW dislike the fact that there will be a parking fee lol

Also, those of you attending Calso, are you guys going alone? I’m nervous

@Polemic

Since it’s different for everyone, they place it in CalCentral under the “My Academics” tab on the right side with the headline “Class Enrollment Fall 2016”.

How do I declare Political Science as my major??

@ivy2018 AYYY. omg i know right! what’s up with that stupid parking fee?? let’s meet up then!
