UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread

@xela007 Can you tell us if you are able to register for classes after your advisor appointment today?

Just to mention housing. Don’t expect to get what you ask for. It seems like last year, hardly anyone did. And I know a ton of transfers age 24-25 that got put with freshmen in residence halls, despite asking for an apt. And freshmen got put in wada with transfers.

Also, unless they changed it, your last choice has to be I’ll take anything or your application might get tossed.

Hi everyone, I’ve been viewing this forum for a while but never registered at College Confidential.
As for CalSO, if I can’t attend any of the orientations would that impact me getting classes for the upcoming Fall 2016. I’m going to europe for a month. And if i meet with my L&S adviser will they clear me for classes? A little bit worried about not attending CalSO. My major is Sociology.

UCB gave me $1,465 in need-based financial aid. I’ve never gotten need-based aid before. I knew that they would love me more than the rest. :((

I had to go Oakland today so I made a stop at Berkeley. Visited Haas, the Veteran Center, and the housing office, all of which I had questions for.

On my way to the housing office to get better insight to the waitlist for family housing, I received an email saying I had an offer for housing at University Village! Woot. We applied a week-ish ago. It wasn’t exactly what we were looking for (a flat instead of a townhouse), but it’s still a 2 bed 2 bath.

It’s a long walk from BART to Haas, so I’m glad I’m no longer considering commuting and BARTing to campus, because it’s a doozy of a walk.

Nice! Very glad for you @briank82.

@CCstudent12345

Everything is done through CalCentral. If it’s not there, then the deadlines have passed. (Which they should have already.)

@Ohm888:

I mentioned this earlier in the thread, but I confirmed with the Cal Housing Assignment Office (which handles the lottery and placements) that Housing is NOT guaranteed for Transfers.

@ can only the spouse and the children of the student live in the family housing or can other family members live there too???

Oh, I also got STUCK in a stairwell at the housing office building. LOL. Yes, I was looking down on my phone, but I saw a door to a stairwell and went down it cause I was on the second floor. I got to the bottom floor and it was an emergency exit and every floor above me needed a key card. Fail.

I knocked for a while and then called the front desk and they let me out haha.

Thanks @SDGoldenBear! And regarding transfers, I jumped quite a few people on the list because transfer’s have priority. Obviously that doesn’t mean they are guaranteed anything, but we definitely have priority.

I’m really surprised about how kind everyone is, especially considering the time of year. A lot of CCC experience of mine, office people at them seem to have the “not my problem…” attitude. At Berkeley today everyone was very helpful and clearly wanted to help.

On that note, hopefully we get a townhouse instead, but if not I can’t complain since I already got a place. It’s a really fluid situation for housing since just 30 days notice is needed.

@briank82 did they tell you how long we had until we had to sign a lease? I received an email as well, but ive been stuck at work all day! The email said we had two days to confirm interest in the apartment, its all moving so fast!~

How do i figure out my Berkeley email?

@MikeSauce The email said we have until 5/6 to let them know, though the lady I spoke to said I could tell her by Monday morning. For actually signing the lease though, I don’t know.

Spots are moving fast though for family housing and it only gets worse from here. She said she had the list almost all the way down and after today it’s already back up to 11 people.

What were you offered? What was your actual availability date? Mine was 6/21.

I was admitted for spring 2017. Can i still sign up for family housing or do i have to wait to apply?

@briank82 a 2bd 1ba flat in west village, my second choice, but still a thousand times better than anything out in the private market. My move in date was 6/17 so it works out pretty well for me actually since that’s when my current landlord wants me out if I don’t pay the hike in rent they want!!! The only downside is I’m waiting on one last school lol

Anyone else get an email today about updated conditions of admission? It says

"We are writing to let you know that there’s been a slight change to your Conditions of Admission. Please login to your student portal, MAP@Berkeley, to review your conditions.

Congratulations once again and Go Bears!"

I don’t see anything different…

@Polemic Yes I just received that email - I don’t see anything different either. I hope the process of submitting all the documents and satisfying all the conditions goes smoothly so I don’t have to worry about getting rescinded. ><

I think that the update is the new transfer update form to verify that you haven’t changed any classes and report if you’re taking anything this summer… That’s all I could find.

Hey, question for anyone that can answer:

@SDGoldenBear got me real interested in Media studies as my alternate major which is advised to have as a pre-econ transfer. Anyway, it looks like I’m missing two pre-reqs for Media Studies. Can I knock one of those out during the summer at my CC, or do I need permission, are there unit caps, etc, etc??

Also, this question is a bit more specific, however, for Media Studies it says I need a 3.2 GPA in the pre-reqs to declare. Is this 3.2GPA combined with CC classes or just classes at Cal? Because I know for Econ, we need a 2.7 for the two classes taken JUST at Cal (Econ and stat class).

Thank you guys!

I’m also wondering who else is planning on visiting this weekend. I’ve switched my weekend shifts around to visit as I live in the NorCal area. It seems like I might be one of few people here that still hasn’t decided between Cal and UCLA. I’m waiting until after I go to both event weekends to SIR.

Hi could someone please display what their Conditions of Admission for UC Berkeley are? It would help me tremendously!

I received an email saying my conditions changed but I am not able to see what my previous conditions of admission were.

@Steph2022 I believe most of what changed were the in progress/planned classes. I know there was a glitch that ended up reporting classes that were taken off prior to the TAU deadline back in Jan. For instance, I had about 6 classes listed, although I am only taking 3 now and had updated that info on TAU.
