How many units to you guys usually take per sem
@Pinkponylife depends on what I need to get done and what classes I’m able to get. This semester I’m taking 18, yet last spring I only took 12.
for TAU, do we need to put summer courses?
Hey everybody. I applied for eecs and ran into some issues in the strongly recommended courses section of the prerequisite form. When I select the term (Fall) I took Computer Science 61B (Data Structures) and save my form, it shows that I didn’t fill out the term when I go back to edit my form. Anyone happen to know how to fix this issue?
Also I accidentally checked the box “Per ASSIST, I will need to take CS 47B to complete this requirement” under Computer Science 61B. Is there a way to uncheck the box?
Thanks!!
@avc118 For summer 2015 or 2016?
You need to put all summer courses- From 2015 or planned ones 2016
@Molisha @tooweirdyo just saw these! and they said that it is up to us that it isn’t necessary
Is getting scholarship offers a good sign?lol
@lovelyyliz I wish! I think we all got them
Wait I didn’t get any scholarship offers. Did you guys get an email or something?
Yeah, I got a few email invitations from the cal alumni association inviting me to apply for some scholarships. However, on the bottom of the emails it states: “Your receipt of this scholarship invitation does not in any way reflect on your application for admission to UC Berkeley. You are no more or less likely to be admitted to UC Berkeley because you have received this invitation, and your decision to apply or not apply for Cal Alumni Association scholarships will not affect your application status.” I wouldn’t get hung-up on not receiving anything.
Hi guys, pertaining to the Berkeley update, why is it that when I click “I taken a physical science lecture without a lab,” there is no further portion to type out the details of my class.
And for me also, I have chosen “I have completed a Biological Science lecture combined with a lab course.”
For this portion, it is ok to just fill in the top portion which is “biological science” since the bottom says if applicable right? since my class is intergrated with a lab and its worth 4 units.
Could use some help! Thank you!
@MugBoy I noticed the same thing. That option to choose “without a lab” is new (it must have been added today or yesterday). So my guess is that when they added that button they accidentally removed the option to fill out the class details, or maybe it was on purpose. To err on the side of caution I might just wait a few days to see if they update it again to allow you to add the details of the course.
@MugBoy same for me but for Bio science
Hopefully they’ll sort it out soon. 8-|
I might take some summer courses. This is just so I can get some fafsa. Ill be in Europe so that 500 dollars extra might come in handy you know? Should I include this? I don’t even know what im going to pick, just some online courses taken as pass/nopass
@pleaseberkeley What a moral person you must be!
How do Cal Grants work for CC students? The application looks a lot like a high school senior/incoming freshman form?
Also, will I not receive any Cal Grant aid as I’ve only completed 15 units with a grade? (First year transfer. Came in with loads of AP).
With Calgrant, CSUC doesn’t distinguish between campuses so the application is essentially the same whether you go to a CC, CSU, or UC. The only thing that will really change is whether your applying for type A, Type B, or type C grants. (All UC bound students should be applying for Type A.)
As far as aid eligibility, your units completed doesn’t affect your determination. You will receive an award as long as you meet full time status, meet the March 2nd deadline, and are within the financial thresholds.
Generally you should apply every year regarless of where you think you will go. As a CCC student, upon receiving an award, you should opt to defer it until you transfer (aka reserving) as all Calgrant recipients should have their CCC tuition fees waived either directly through CSUC or a third party waiver like (Board of Governors) BOG.
What’s really great with this setup is that any outside merit scholarships you receive essentially end up in your pocket at the end of the academic year as almost all merit scholarships have stipulations that excess funds are to be cashed out to the student at the end of academic year and your CCC COA is essentially $0.
I was a one year transfer as well and I essentially went to CCC for free because CSUC waived my tuition and had my Cal Grant A Reserve waiting for me when I arrived at Berkeley. I had a study partner from CCC that was a few thousand dollars net positive at the end of his CCC stint because of all the scholarships he received as well.
@SDGoldenBear
I applied for the Cal Grant last year…and I’m not sure if I reserved it. How would I find out? I’m still paying a few dollars for CC. I paid $50 last semester (for the ID card and some other thing) and $20 this semester. On my student bill, it says I’m using the “BOGG waiver financial aid fin”. Does this mean I’m not using my Cal Grant, and that it’s on reserve?
If i’m using it for CC, can I not use it for when I transfer?
Lastly how do I get it filled out for transferring? Do I just hand the form to a counselor?
