Also @SDGoldenBear, it says that “Submit a CA Community College GPA based on 24 completed units to the California Student Aid Commission by March 2nd.” Since I’ve only completed 15 units last semester (I have ~30 from AP and I’m taking 18.5 this semester), do I not have a GPA to apply with?
Firstly I want to correct myself. My previous post should have read “All UC bound students should be applying for AT LEAST Type A.” That modifier is important as Type B Calgrant often provides a better overall value for transfers should they qualify.
Traditionally, CCC students who receive a Calgrant A award automatically have their entitlements reserved for up to 3 years. There have been holdups in the past for those who are missing verifications, but if your 100% verified, it should be automatically reserved if you state your current campus as a CCC.
Calgrant is a time based financial aid. It’s not a question of using it at a CCC versus a four year, but rather a question of when do you want your timer to begin. Calgrant Type B & C(?) allow students to use their stipend while in CCC for living costs while starting their timer early and forgoing a portion of their future aid. That said, almost all students will want to save their allotted time for a four year where the costs to attend are much higher than at a CCC.
I assume the “BOGG” you stated is really the BOG-FW (Board of Governors Fee Waiver)? If that’s the case, then you are not currently using Calgrant. Additionally if you are using it now, you should have received a lump sum of money (around $1,600) sometime during the fall.
As far as having less than 24 units, it just means rather than using a pure CCC GPA, your GPA verification will be combination of your HS and CCC courses. This is called a “re-established” GPA. Your counselor should be the one to calculate and submit this info.
Also you are correct in that a fin-aid counselor is the best place to verify the forms you need to submit. You can also double check that they will submit your GPA verification form(s), especially re-established GPAs, as that is usually the main issue for one year transfers. After you find out which school you will be transferring to, you would just need to update your CSAC profile and change your campus from your CCC to your eventual UC of choice.
@SDGoldenBear Thank you so much for the info! But what if I only have 15 units, not 16?
Also, I don’t qualify for Cal Grant A, because my high school GPA was a 2.9 (freshman year, ha).
With a reestablished GPA, I’d definitley be good to go. But would I have to use my HS GPA because I’m under 16 units right now?
@pleaseberkeley When I took classes last summer, financial aid only covered the cost of tuition, although they did offer me additional loans.
Does anyone know if the lab portion of the MAP been fixed?
@jonuni94 I just filled out MAP yesterday and it was not fixed. It seems we’ll just have to make due with explaining the error in the additional comments section. Take solace that thousands of others will be doing the same!
Can someone chance me?
I am applying as an Anthro major, and currently have a 3.91 GPA (already factoring in my Fall 2015 grades).
I don’t have a lot of ECs, plus none of the major courses Cal is requiring have an articulation with my CC.
I’m planning to appeal for equivalency (if I do get in, hopefully).
I work at the counseling center of my CC, if that counts for anything.
I will complete all requirements by Spring 2016.
My essays were read by some of the counselors who are currently reading for other UCs as well, and they liked it, but I’m still scared.
Thank you so much, and I would really appreciate the help.
@yna1995 If the prereqs are not articulated at your CC, or any CC that you have attended, you will not be penalized for not having them completed.
Definitely keep a copy of your syllabi to petition for credit.
You should get in - you’re very competitive.
Thank you so much! I was very worried about the major requirements having a big effect on my admission chances I will definitely keep my syllabi
@yna1995 Anthro isn’t impacted. If they did offer them at your CC, and you didn’t take them, then that could be a problem - but you took all that was available, it seems, so they can’t really penalize you.
@Cheolf Got it. Well you’re right, but still, for us OCD people… it sucks haha. We should check it out on Jan 30 just to see if it is fixed or not. Additional comments section will do for now.
Hey guys. I just submitted my pre-req form and noticed that once I save/update the form, all of my "I have met this requirement with more than one course” are unchecked. Once I check them off again, my original course listing comes back. Did my form actually send properly? Or did it send with no additional coursework listed?..
If I admitted, Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) should be submitted by June 1st right?
But, the notification period of another school that I applied is between June and July.
Then, can I change my mind to go the other college after submitting SIR?
@csplzplz Yes, but the money you pay when you SIR (I forget how much it is) is non-refundable. You can retract your SIR.
@goldencub sorry I am new here… but what do u mean by impacted major?
@resonanx It means more people apply for a specific major than can be accommodated, which means the majors are typically very competitive and selective.
Hey guys. I want to ask what the general day of knowing if you got in was. My day is APRIL 29th. Are there people with earlier dates?
@nidalee It’s April 29th for everybody, supposedly. It was originally supposed to be April 24th, but they pushed back the deadline. It is very possible that it could change again.
Hi guys,
can you please tell me what does this mean “Prior to transfer, will you have satisfied the Entry-Level Writing Requirement?”
Thanks
@VeniVidiVici1 AP English exam with a score higher than a 3 or a C or higher in an acceptable college English Comp. course will satisfy the requirement. If you have completed IGETC/Breadth, you have completed the requirement.
