UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread

So I ended up withdrawing my application from UCB because I truly feel as if I need to stay another year at my CCC. I was going to have to end up taking 21 units this semester, and preferably pass all classes with A’s, which is something that I don’t know if it could have been done. So now on to the question, will this affect me applying to Berkeley in any way in the future? This is still my dream school, and I am planning on applying for the fall 2017 semester. It just seems much more sensible to wait one more year, I could come out with better grades in the classes that I need and be better prepared when it comes time to apply again. I do also feel as if my personal statements were a bit rushed this go around. I just don’t want this to affect me in any way, shape, or form when I apply to Berkeley again.

@lovelyyliz It will not affect you negatively whatsoever.

@lovelyyliz Retracting your submission will not affect you in future admission cycles.

It sounds like you made a great decision. 21 units is insane. Asking for a 4.0 with 21 units is begging to be disappointed.

Take solace in the fact you are able to assess your situation and determine the correct course of action. Remember, the hare didn’t win the race.

So, for the Berkeley pre-req form, is it ok if “I have met this requirement with additional coursework” gets unchecked every time I save/submit the form?

emm on the IGETC form on MAP berkeley, when I choose the option “I have taken a physical science course without a lab”, the box for me to fill in the course disappeared. Does anyone have this problem?

@resonanx yeah, all of us

@resonanx @forshevchenko @boxandwhiskers The “I have taken a _____ science without a lab” button finally works for me. So glad.

The “I completed a Physical Science lecture plus a separate lab course” button still doesn’t save properly for me, though :-L

Hey, all, the UCLA’s 2015 Transfer Profile is up. They gave 25th and 75th percentiles instead of averages, which really gives us a better picture of who really gets admitted.

I think it’s fair to assume that Cal is only slightly more selective, if at all; for most majors, add about .05-.10 to the 50th percentile, and that should give you a very crude estimate for selectivity at Cal (with there being some differences for certain majors, of course - Communications at UCLA is likely more difficult to get admitted into than Cal’s Media Studies).

None of the BIO science buttons work for me anymore haha

Oh great, the 75% admitted GPA went up for my major :-S I’m most likely just SIR’ing to Davis anyway. Still, though, ughhhhghgkdhg.

@goldencub me too. That issue with the separate vs combined lab thing was the one that I wanted fixed the most.

but again, this year UCLA increase the number of transfer students they will enroll right? I wonder if the competition will be less competitive than last year

when filling L&S breath skill form, the radio button in mathematics requirement doesn’t work. Does anyone have the same problem?

Update: Clicking the radio button, “I have completed a Physical Science lecture without a lab course.” now works on the MAP. Try it out and click “Update”.

@boxandwhiskers how did you find that out?

@uctransfer2016 Find out what?

@boxandwhiskers the acceptance rate going up

Hi, guys! I need some help. I am applying as a Poli Econ major, and I received a supplemental form specifically for it. Can anyone help me out with these questions?

  1. IAS 45 is a requirement for Poli Econ transfers. However, on ASSIST, it says that this course must be taken at Berkeley. On my Poli Econ supplemental app, I'm required to list that I've done a course for IAS 45. How do I approach this if ASSIST says that it can only be taken at Berkeley? I am confused about this. They can't penalize me for never taking the course at Berkeley while I was in community college, right? That'd be unfair.
  2. This one I'm freaking out about a bit. Apparently I need 4 semesters worth of foreign language for Poli Econ. It says on ASSIST that I can fulfill this requirement by taking foreign language in high school (I took 2 years of Spanish in high school), but on the supplemental app, there's no option for "took in high school". It's only "College Courses", "AP Exams", and "5 years of language in high school outside the US". Please help?
  3. For the IGETC form on the supplemental application, I fulfilled some requirements with AP courses. What do I put for "Department", "Course Number", "Course Title", "Semester or Quarter", "Units", "Grade", "College", "Term", and "Year"?

I know this is really hefty, and you’re honestly an angel for helping out.

Thanks so, so much!

Hey guys! Do you think a W in a one unit class would affect my application? I am currently enrolled with 25 qrtr units in my CCC and the one unit class I’m taking is super time consuming. Though I can still do it with 25 units if I push myself, I would want to have a little bit of breather. I just don’t know how it’ll affect my application now.
