UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread

@brick0319 I didn’t see your grades from the first time you went to school. Did you get any Ds or Fs? If so, academic renewal might be an option.

@music1990

I had some c’s but then they were irrelavent humanity and art classes. I’m a business major now. But I’m hoping they would see that I have improved drastically.

Is it true that if I have taken certain amount of classes from a cc I won’t be able to apply to UC Berkeley???

@brick0319 No, you can take as many classes from a CC as you’d like. The limit really applies to upper division courses from CSUs, UCs, etc.

The CS courses from community colleges cover a minor fraction of what Cal’s classes do in the same semester. I t is very unfortunate for us. My CS61B equivalent barely even covered data structures.

@blsUCtransfer Hey, if you don’t mind me asking was your Data Structures class CIS 27?

Nope Im at LA Pierce College

Probably a little late, but what should I do if I haven’t fulfilled gen ed breadth requirements? I hadn’t realized they were necessary for transfer admission. Should I just not submit the form on maps or should I write something in the additional comments (like “pls accept me. its just like three classes come on man”) and submit?

@transferwangle What are you applying for and what are you missing?

Are you missing things from IGETC? Or are you talking about Seven Course Breadth requirement? If the latter, it isn’t required for admissions, just for graduation. Or are you talking about things like english?

@briank82 I’m applying as a physics major. I’m missing a couple of classes for igetc certification; 2 under social and behavioral sciences and 1 under arts and humanities.

So… anyone have problem where their checkbox for additional coursework gets unchecked once you save/update the pre-req form?
Major problem :frowning:

Hi guys,
It’s ok to keep updating the Berkeley update right? Haha cause I have been regularly updating mine since I submitted it. Would this affect my admission in any way?

@MugBoy It will have zero affect on your admission status. You can update it as many times as you wish before the deadline. There is no downside.

For the English R1B requirement, is it all possible that I could use an English class other than the one marked as equivalent on Assist? My CC has three similar English classes - English 101,102, and 103 -, and I have taken 103 (which is enough to satisfy the English requirement for all the UCs except Berkeley), but Assist specifically states 102 as satisfying R1B. R1A is already satisfied by an AP course I took in high school. Can I use English 103 instead to satisfy the R1B?

Has anyone who applied to UCLA or UCB, have you guys received a regents scholarship notification? Some of my friends have, and they have lower GPA’s then me! So I am just curious on how they made the selection!!

Thanks!!

@calbear2016fall
They may have had great ECs to compensate for GPAs that weren’t at a 4.0. A student with a 3.9 GPA with excellent ECs can conceivably get a regent’s scholarship notification.

@calbear2016fall I was under the impression that people would find out if they got Regents after they were admitted? I dunno, I haven’t.

@11100ms no you have to take the assist equivalent.

I’m unsure that you always have to take the articulated courses. For example at my school English 1A and English 5 are the only English courses that fulfill the reading and comprehension section of igetc. My major accepts igetc and assist explicitly states it fulfills reading and comprehension requirements, but if you fulfill reading and comprehension requirements without igetc you would have to take English 1a and English 1b (as opposed to English 1a and English 5). So it may not always be that cut and dry

So it would seem Berkeley feels English 1b and English 5 (granted only with igetc) must cover similar material, despite that not being stated on assist
