@indianhopeful I think it’s true that most people who got off the wait list were CA residents. What I’m hoping (because I’m OOS) is that they put a lot of CA residents and only a few international and OOS applicants on the waitlist (leading to 1000+ acceptances from CA). Hopefully we have the same chance of getting off the waitlist as CA residents.
Hey guys!
This is a somewhat motivational message since I know many of us are stressed as others are already committed to schools and knowing where they will spend the rest of their four years. I just wanted everyone to remember that being waitlisted is already an amazing step. Only 18% of applicants are either admitted or waitlisted. Remember that Berkeley wants you, but space is the only limitation at this point. Whether community college or a different university is your back up, it’s important to remember that where you go for an undergraduate degree is not the only thing that matters. If Berkeley is your dream, I’m assuming you would like to continue your education and go to grad school. Going to a prestigious school for grad school is even better. We can always show our success at any university, and we just need to stop worrying and constantly thinking about this for the next few weeks. We already waited 4 months for a decision. Wishing everyone the best of luck
@USUG21 I did not get a reminder. Is that a bad sign? Or do people who had not submitted their opt in app get a reminder. ?
@0ffdaboat if you hav submitted ur opt in u ll not get a reminder… its only for those ppl who hv nt submitted… this means that berkely is going to use its WL soon…
I was wondering how good our essays have to be…My essay shows my senior year awards/achievements and I talk about how I will contribute at Berkeley. I don’t think I show them that I’m unique or anything tho, just how I can contribute
@johnlimster dont worry. Ppl who are in WL are there because they are prima facie accepted by the admission comitte and are a fit to the colllege but because they do not hav a seat so they are Waitlisted. Hence they do not exactky want to know how brilliant u r… they just want to know u r intrested. They ll take ppl off the WL to fill the slot like they may be havin less ppl SIR in neuroscience so they will take off neuroscience major waitlister if he has shown intrest
So if u hav shown intrest in your essay then sit back… u probably hav done your best…
.
best wishes to all i genuinely hope you all hear good news from cal!
hey guys Happy Easter! Does anyone know if Berkeley usually accepts off the waitlist before June? Like how soon do they start accepting off it !? Thanks
@bellabiology99 Last year they began accepting students off the waitlist as soon as like April 23rd or something for civil engineering. Then they began to slowly send more acceptances in may. Mostly everyone was notified by the middle of may of they were accepted, however there was a wave towards the end of may. If rejected then you’ll find out June 1st
Thank you! Do they email you? Or do you have to keep checking the portal!?
@bellabiology99 I’m not sure about that … I would assume they would email
Do you think the readers will have more than 8 minutes per application, and do you think there is more than one reader admitting students from the waitlist?
@Hardzworker where did you get the info that they read apps for 8 min each?
@nccc1701 Thank you, I needed that. We need more people like you in this world.
@johnlimster Do not worry about it too much. Honestly, it’s optional. According to them, they said they want us, but due to seat limation. At least you didn’t leave it blank like some other people you know? And just let fate takeover.
I’m about to opt-in soon, but I’m a bit confused on the grade part. For UCLA’s opt-in, I just reported my fall grades. I know fall grades are just our final first semester grades, but what would our winter and spring grades be considered? I feel really dumb asking, lol. Of course, spring would be the final grades for second semester, but those aren’t finalized at all, and I’m kind of lost at what they want for the winter grades (perhaps the first grading period?) Would it be harmful to only include the fall grades since they are the only final semester grades? I wouldn’t want my underestimation or overestimation of second semester grades that aren’t finalized to harm me in any way.
@shmuc8 dont think too much… just optin with whatever at that time appears to be rt to u. U r alreday qualified for the colllege…
Can we send another letter of rec?
@PMotorradM Do not send in materials they do not ask for. If you feel that the letter of rec will significantly help out, you can call the admission office and ask if you can send a letter of rec.
@Hardzworker @PMotorradM They said they won’t accept LORs at all.
