*****UC Berkeley 2021 Waitlist Thread*****

Is Cal going to admit Instate first?

… probably not. Hard to say.

my friends mom works for admissions and said it will be released on friday

Man I really hope so

Does Berkeley admit students off the wait list based on major? I applied as a comp sci major in the college of letters & sciences and so i’m worried that my major selection would affect my chances of getting off the wait list

@cheeesecake99 All waitlist applicants are qualified for Berkeley, but are subject to space limitations, so it all depends on if someone who was offered admission and is in the same or a similar major as you declined or rescinded their offer.

@cheeesecake99 I also applied for CS in letters and sciences! It would be so cool to meet you if we both get in!

Are you sure? I believe major does not matter for admission into L&S

yeah it seems like it’d be more beneficial for Cal if they compared ALL of us to one another instead of just comparing within majors since then they’d get the best overall candidates?

My strong understanding has always been that regardless of which L&S major you put down on UC app, for Cal’s purposes, they’re all dumped into one big L&S pile for admissions consideration.

I really hope all the protests and riots scared people off lol

UCB has the prestige but we can always go to berkeley later for graduate school, which is where the fame comes from and usually easier financially with more available research grant and what not. Frankly other UC campuses are top notch, have better housing situation, and smaller classes than berkeley undergrad. So, let’s don’t torture ourselves here.

I guess maybe it’s also because of the graduation going on these couple days… They might just be too busy to make decisions before the graduation???

i feel like they admit based on how many spots are open in a major? because if they just admit the top people from the whole general waitlist, what if all the people they took off happen to be in a popular major already, etc etc?

I applied L&S Computer Science as well. I really hope that they look at L&S in general, and not specifically CS. I have a 4.0 unweighted, 4.55 weighted, and 34 ACT, but I know that this is just about average for computer science applicants (this is probably why I got waitlisted at UCLA too), so I really hope they don’t consider your major when admitting you off the waitlist for L&S.

lol Cal playing us like the boy who cried wolf :))
we should just take a breath and enjoy the last month of high school! The decision shall arrive one day!
Even if we don’t get in, I’m sure we’ll all have amazing experience in college and great success in the future!
At the end, college is what we make of it!!!
Good luck to y’all amazing people :bz

I applied for Neurobiology in L&S so hopefully it won’t be too impacted… :-S haha

Guys! I just heard that Berkeley has a great amount of debt now as the state reduced funding. Will it ultimately affect the waitlisted people?!

@iwillyou
Decreased funding effects the ratio of in-state and out-of-state student in favor of out of state. This is due to the exceptionally higher out-of-state tuition. With this being said, as a state school Berkeley is required to accept a certain number of in-state students. Any deficit will be covered with a raise in tuition. Therefore, this should have little effect on the waitlist. Berkeley frequently struggles with low state funding; this is nothing new.

@iwillyou I’m not sure what year it was but I remember this happening a few year back? And I think that was why waitlisted people heard back so late? idk forgot
