*****UC Berkeley 2021 Waitlist Thread*****

Did any international student get through?

Congrats to anyone who got off the waitlist/will get off the waitlist. I hope to see you all next year!

Can anyone tell me how to find out if FPF is still available before I SIR? If I SIR? Probably going to USC, but definitely want to understand if I can do FPF before thinking about committing to UCB.

@iwillyou I’m an international student from Canada and I got the January acceptance. Applied to L&S for astrophysics major.

Did they give rejects today too, or just acceptances? I doubt anyone would post that they got rejected tho. I applied intending social science and haven’t heard back yet. Hopefully next wave–at least it is not a reject.

@Matthewlev13 I don’t think they would give rejections out until the end of May. There should be waves going out every Friday because that’s the due date for the SIR. 1 week to respond and then the next wave goes right out.

Since I got in for Jan 2018 can I still ask for fall 2017?

@fiercehearted waiting for CNR but I saw someone earlier in the thread that did get accepted for CNR

@Matthewlev13 i applied for the same major and didn’t hear back either. I guess we’ll have to wait it out? lol i remembered seeing u at the uw thread.

My son is a freshman at UCB. He got off the waitlist on 5/2 last year. Maybe I can help answer some of your questions. He was given one week to SIR, which he did right away because Cal was his first choice. Since it was early (the regular admits had until 5/2 to submit their SIR’s), he was able to register along with everyone else for campus housing, CalSo (orientation), and student football season tickets. Last year, the students were given choices for FPF Berkeley, FPF SF, Global Edge, and January Start. Spaces were limited and filled first-come-first-serve, and FPF Berkeley filled up first (and quickly). Students who opted FPF SF (second most popular) could live on campus but were bussed into SF for classes the first semester.

My son got his first choice for housing with regular admit students. He attended orientation with regular admit students. The only difference was most of his classes (3 out of 4) first semester were taken at the FPF building, located 2 blocks south of campus. That was it. It actually worked out better because the classes were much smaller than the freshmen classes on campus. My son actually did much better (GPA wise) first term than his roommates (regular admits)! The FPF students also had access to advisors who were much more accessible than the ones on campus.

FPF started on the same day as regular admits and I don’t think my son felt really “different” at any time. FPF went out of their way to make sure the students know that they are every bit as much Cal students as those who were accepted in March. He is now taking all his second semester classes on campus and doing very well.

For the Spring Admits, you may think you have a late start, but most people can still graduate in 4 years with credits brought in from AP courses and/or summer courses.

Regarding L&S and majors. There is a misconception regarding the College of L&S that if you applied for (as an incoming freshman) and are accepted, you are in that major. Actually, all freshmen in L&S are essentially undeclared. You must meet criteria for classes and grades for the major and apply for the major at the end of sophomore/beginning of junior year. For that reason, I don’t know if your intended major has any effect on your chances of getting off the waitlist. Again, I’m referring only to L&S, not College of Engineering, where you are admitted with a major that will not change unless you go below a certain GPA.

Hope that helps. This site was very helpful for my son last year. I checked back today because I thought this must be that time again. Congrats to those who heard back. There were many waves of admission last year, so if you are still waiting, and Cal is where you would like to go, don’t lose hope!

@USUG21 Did you get through?

I was admitted today for civil engineering!! How do I know if I am a January admit or not? Thank you!

It says I’m pleased to offer you admission for fall 2017 on my letter! OOS ps

How do you know if you got fpf berkeley? If you were able to submit your pathway does that mean you made it?

I can’t seem to finish applying for FPF Berkeley. It says I might need to wait for my SIR to process for at least 30 minutes, it’s almost been an hour now. Does this mean it’s full?

@iwillyou idint get till now. But one school mate has got . So internationals hav got.

@USUG21 I think they haven’t notified ppl who have applied undeclared or who are intending a major in social sciences this wave. I am intending a major in social sciences. And two ppl from my high school got off. They both appplied for eco!

Did anyone intending a major in social sciences get any notification?

@iwillyou I didn’t.
Maybe cal hasn’t notified the social sciences pile and the CS pile?
I hope so.

Same :frowning:
